A question that I had put in my last (ridiculously long) post about cooling system issues that turned into quite the discussion.....

I'm still wondering:

"has anyone else had the trouble that I had getting the radiator out? It's not as simple as the FSM makes it out to be. The charge air cooler (which is also indirectly fastened to the a/c condensor) is hooked on to the front of the radiator with interlocking tabs. Which means in order to lift the radiator high enough to disengage the plastic pegs that drop into the grommets in the frame - I had to remove the grill, remove the hood latch support, take the electric fan loose, then push the whole mess up and prop it in position with some chunks of 1x2 under the CAC. Only then could the radiator be lifted high enough to disengage the bottom end. Anyone else run into this?"....

....or, maybe an easier way?

Any suggestions welcome.

i will try to repare mine and if it needs to be replaced, i will the mechanic do it...
Sounds far too complicated for me...

I had to remove the rad last year, on the TC job. While trying to extract the engine fan, I inadvertantly nicked the rad :evil: Result? A nice little hole spewing coolant!

Yep, your description of the job pretty much sums up what I went through. I still felt it was not that bad, considering the TC job to be much more demanding. Remove grill, top crossmember with hood latch, side fasteners, electric fan & hoses then prying the rad 1" up before sliding it inward and down then pull out!

Besides, it was a good practice for the upcoming TB change, as I will remove the whole combo (rad-CAC-condenser) for workspace, as well as taking the opportunity to perform thorough inside-and-out cleaning of rad and CAC...

So Topan, fear not if you are mechanically enclined to do it yourself :BANANA:

at the risk of pushing it too far, has someone got a write-up with pics on this ?

i am booking a lift at the only do it yourself mechanic shop in the region for this saturday.
I will start looking at leaks (pipes and hose) and i bought 2 types of Epoxy glue.
Not sure at all that i will start removing the condensor. :oops:

But i do need to do something: the oil spillage is all over the right hand side of the car: suspension, break (nice !!) and engine....oops... :rockon:

There is some valuable info, but no real how-to, though the 2nd link depicts an alternate transmission cooler installation

Does it say if the original cooler was left in place, and the hoses just removed from it and connected to the new one ?

will look at where is the leak this week end.

From what I understand, you either have the choice of having it set in series, parallel or it could simply be bypassed (emptied and left disconnected) if using an efficient-enough setup, like the high BTU-dispersing one with its own fan...
