Just thought I would introduce myself here in the CRD forum, as that is what I am looking for. I have been reading so much here that even though I have never owned a diesel, I am getting pretty darn good at diagnosing the common problems that CRD owners encounter. I am in no hurry, trying to be patient, looking for a 2006 Limited CRD with less than 50K. There are a few out there, but none just right yet. I have been wanting a small diesel 4x4 for a while and I think the KJ CRD is my best bet. It will be my daily driver, boat tower and off road fun toy. I plan on doing all of the common mods and adding a coil over lift up to maybe 4". Too bad no standard trans but oh well... Great forum! ...but you guys already know that. ![]() Ron |

Yah darn diesel! Complications with lift, TC, RMS, glow plugs, are the big ones for me. I am fine with fixing a few things but seems like the little diesels are either bullet proof or time bombs. No wonder they only produced them 2 years and then started in with the emissions excuses... ![]() ![]() |

The emmissions stuff was no excuse. Even VW had to stop selling the TDI cars breifly, and Ford, GM, and Dodge all had to scramble to bring something totally new to market to meet requirements. The government basically killed the Jeep CRD. They were selling like hotcakes and Jeep would probably still offer it if it wasn't for the stupid EPA. As far as the lift kit issue, that's not a CRD problem either. That's an IFS problem. NO Liberty can go to 4" without a lot of cash thrown at it. The TC was an issue but Jeep remedied that now. |

Well maybe it just "looks" like a lot of people are doing 4", or maybe they are. I was planning on about $1000 and doing the work myself. How far off am I on that? Definitely want to keep IFS. I have been holding out for years for the Gladiator with the CRD but even if the Gladiator does make it to production by 2013 I am sure it will be a gasser. |

Have you looked at many CRD's? The lower arms of the IFS don't get elevated with a lift. Only route is bigger rubber. If I could change one thing only, it would definitely be a real front axle. Read Mark Kapalczynski's posts. He loved his CRD. .. . came up with some useful mods a lot of us are using. BUT, he traded it because he couldn't get the lift he felt he needed. |
