Hello I need help trouble shooting the code U0146 on my 05 CRD. I just rebuilt the motor from the ground up. Motor runs fine. However, the transmission will not engage and the CEL code is U0146. The TCM is modified with the GDE transmission tune and my ECU has the full torque tune. I also added an SEGR into the mix. I would greatly appreciate some clues as to where I should check. Thanks, Reid |

The TCM ground wire was disconnected causing the issue. Every thing is working fine except for a minor oil leak which I;ll correct tomorrow. |

Coyrl, Good to hear that your rig is almost back to normal, are you still considering posting your repair process? |

Yes. I made a commitment and will follow through to build a blog. The entire process is documented and photographed. Will post sources and costs. |

Looking for some help here...where is the "TCM ground wire' located? I'm having ground issues and trying to sort this one. TCM is removed, but I don't see a ground wire on near it. Thanks. |

Thanks. There are several grounds that should be checked in the engine compartment. A few pointers that will help I hope. Well,I assumed (incorrectly) that it would be the same, but I should have mentioned that I have a 2006 CRD. Looks like that's not the location for the 06, just the 05. |

Well, all four lit up brightly. ![]() I also thought previously that it might be the TCM, and had the opportunity to try one of the Dodge Ram TCMs that is supposed to be compatible. It remained in limp mode, with the same U0146 error, so I was hoping one of the grounds might be the problem. |

Based on what you posted, a ground issue is not your problem and if you tried a different TCM and it still is doing the same thing, sound like you have a different issue. Maybe time to take it to a good transmission shop with a scanner and see what is causing the problem? |
