Volkswagen Under Investigation for TDI engine stalling in 2010/2011 models. Volkswagen has said the problem could be “fuel contamination,” meaning that owners are accidentally filling up with gasoline. Volkswagen is complying with the investigation. |

Here's one fellow said about it: "This issue has been well documented at tdiclub. From what I read over there when researching the latest TDI's, it appears that a part wasn't spec'd correctly for the US market diesel, and is grenading due to among other things, a presumed lack of lubricity in US ULSD". Here's the thread over on the TDI club. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=308323 Maybe the HPFP in the VW's don't have the interior coating MrMopar told us our CRD have. Bosh/VW have had three revisions of the pump so far. Another sign of just how crappy our fuel is:frankie: http://wot.motortrend.com/diesel-invest ... -8723.html http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ub ... er=2169337 http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financia ... Due to the difference in mechanics of the Piezo vs Solenoid injectors, the piezo's don't require the increase lubricant package that the solenoid's do when sold in low-lubricity markets (like USA). However, the CP4 pump on the VW is sensitive to volume flow supplied by the pre-supply circuit and also the cleanliness thereof. There are also different levels of the internal protective coating. Only VW really knows the difference of the part numbers, and I'm sure they're less than inclined to spell out the details... |

VW should know the USA diesel fuel quality better than anyone since they've been selling diesels here continuously since oh, about 1976? Our fuel quality should be no surprise to them. And USA diesel is not THAT bad - it's not like we're filling up on water, algae, and scrapings off the bottom of the deep fryer at Uncle Bubba's Fried Twinkie Emporium. VW has also had problems with the "tandem pump" on the 2.0L PD engines - it combined the cam driven vacuum pump of the previous VE pump engines with a fuel pump to pressurize the rail for the unit injectors. Some of the (Bosch) pumps were defective and would fill the crankcase up with diesel until the engine hydrolocked and went BOOM. These same engines also had a rash of counterbalancer shaft failures traced back to a "low cost supplier" and poor casting quality, I recall. |

Thanks for the heads up I have a friend look to buy a 10/11 TDI. I wonder if it has been a problem in Canada too? |
