So I'm here now at the dealership having a clockspring replaced under warrenty when I said, how much for a fuel filter change? Its cold out here in nj, I'm under tight time constraints and figured well $30 for the filter and labor at worst maybe $75. Service writer just quoted me $330! ![]() I said yeah right, oh we have to replaces wires and sensors etc. I said as I chuckled I'll do it myself. He counters with, How about we do it for $280? "Oh the fuel filter alone is $180" Welcome the laughter. |

Tell him you'll go to NAPA and get the exact filter for $27, and they can get 100% of ZILCH for that kind of extortion attempt. |

I was polite and said, yeah not happening. Please finish waranty work and I'll see you again when something elses is covered. So wix it is from napa and I'll just try and find the time. No sensors or lights went off that it needs to be changed anyway. Just shameless in their behavior. Profit isn't a dirty word, but come on! Don't piss on my leg and tell me its raining. $180 for the filter? |

Not totally their fault - the parts manual lists the filter head combo as Filter Fuel/Oil separator and the filter only as Filter Fuel, and the maintenance schedule says to change the Fuel/Oil Seperator. So if they're not paying attention - they get the combo unit instead of the filter. and then you add standard dealership pricing with a minimum of 1 hr labor charge to do 15 minutes of work............ |

Yeah the Parts guy at my local dealer told me the filter was about that price too. He is a cool guy to deal with and I can be honest with him. He knows people don't have tons of cash to drop if they can help not to do so. I asked him to showed me the part he was looking up, he pulled up a pic of the fuel head with filter. I laughed a little then I told him that was not only the filter but the fuel head too and I wasn't buying more than I needed. I could order just the filter at NAPA if they couldn't. He just told me he would do the same if it were him and didn't get why it was listed like that or that just the filter was not easy for him to find. I ended up getting it at NAPA that time. There are some guys that are not trying to rip us off at the dealers. They just have bad info on some things. Still I think its funny the dealers can't get the correct part on the first try for a simple filter. |
