Make plans to do the timing belt. I have fixed some VW Diesel Engines that had timing belts break, take my word, it is a big mess and most would replace the head. On the VWs, I would replace the valves, guides, lifters, and resleeve the lifter bores as needed. Since the CRD has rockers, 16 valves instead of 8, dual over head cams, a CRD would be a bigger mess and I don't want to have any first hand experience.
