Since 2000, I've owned a bunch of new vehicles. Fords, GMs, and Dodge/Jeep products. The Dodge/Jeep products have by FAR been the most reliable and have spent the least amount of time in the shop. These rankings really surprise me.

When someone takes their Lincoln, Lexus or Jaguar 1,000 miles off road I will pay more attention to to the reliability figures.

+1+1+1 Absolutely right! Dumb survey. Also, totally different buyer clientele.

One needn't be defensive.

Yakers--Most Jeep owners don't take their vehicles off road either. Whereas, Ford 250's/350's are servicing ranches across the American outback and Ford ranks high.

bhc04--It's not a survey. It's data taken from service visits in the first three years of ownership and it doesn't matter who the clientele are. You think you can tell me the difference between the typical Ford, GM, and Chrysler buyer? Does this typical buyer explain the difference in reliability?

It's interesting that Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep all rank so low. To me that speaks to either some sort of inexplicable anti-Chrysler bias or, more likely, to a real quality difference. I'm not planning on dumping my Jeep as a result. I'm loving the thing and hope to turn a couple of hundred thousand miles in it. If it were to die, however, I might look elsewhere for it's replacement.

This Liberty CRD has been by far the most troublesome vehicle I have ever owned, and I've owned a bunch. None the less, for some reason I like the thing and am determined to keep it going...unless something catostrophic takes the thing out.

The second worst vehicle was the '99 Jeep Wrangler Sahara previous to this one...which had a multitude of issues with the wiring harness, among other things. It was fun, but the electrical got me down so I traded it for the CRD.

I'm not a hard driver, and do take care of what I drive, however I feel I'm constantly chasing reliability/design/beancounter issues with the CRD. I've had a few issues with other vehicle brands, both cars and Pickups, but nothing ever to the extent of Jeep.

I'm sure thats not everyone's experience, but it is mine. For some reason though, I'm still hooked on the CRD. It's unique...It's fun....and it's aggrivating as hell...all in the same package....

Yep, sure can. You should know Jeepers are a certain type buyer. You think same buyer clientele that buys, Cadillac, Lincoln, BMW, Lexus are the same type buyer that buys, Jeep? I wouldn't bet on it.

I do not see many ads from those makes showing their vehicles going through steams and sitting on mountain tops

Never bought a vehicle based on what the infidels at JD Power, Consumer Reports, or Motor Trend, etc. said, recommended, drove, or took apart.
Imagine there's many out there that do. I guess that's why all us TRUE motorheads have such and outstanding supply of sissy cars and trucks for the buying. :goink:

I tend to rely more on MSN autos reliability ratings. They actually list what the problems are, and how much it will likely cost to fix.. These reports from JD Power are for three year old vehicles, and you know it's mamby pamby BS they are looking at. These vehicles are under warranty still. Which means that squeaks warrant a service visit. Anything for free right? You just bought a new vehicle, everything seems like a problem. When it's six years old or more, you tend not to run to the service department for things, if at all. That aside, perhaps the top of the list have less squeaks, rattles, little irritations. That may be due to the fact, as mentioned above, that they aren't treated the same. I do have to agree that a lot of people use their farm heavy trucks way harder than I will ever use a jeep. Fuel, tools, generator, crew, plow frames, then pound the poor thing across unmaintained farm roads towing equipment. If there is reincarnation, I do not want to come back as a farm truck.
