My cruise control is not working.

The indicator dash light comes on, but it will not set when i press the button at any speed, it used to work fine.

Has anyone experienced these symtoms with their vehicle?

sounds like the clockspring is good, and it sounds like the ECU is still reading the switch.

Maybe a dirty contact on the actual switch? pull the airbag and test the switch with a multimeter to see if you get a resistance reading when you push set.

Dang it......Even though I detach the battery terminal before taking it off, I hate fiddling with that explosive thing. Is there another possible cause to try before i deal with the bag?

Dude, its two 8mm bolts and two wires to unplug. You could unplug it with the key on and engine running and its not going to explode.

Maybe I've just grown complacent, but I've been working on airbags for years so its just second nature for me. Shouldn't take more than a minute to remove the airbag.

Joe,

My brake light has been acting funny...it come on and goes off every once in a while along with the ABS light.

You think it may be related?

Yes :SOMBRERO: The brake light switch is what takes it out of cruise when you hit the brakes :JEEPIN:

I don't know about the ABS light though. But the switch is the cheapest fix you can get :-)r

Under the dash above the brake pedal :SOMBRERO:

Read up on the adjusting it. It's kind of a one shot deal :JEEPIN:

Here is something else I should mention, for about 3 weeks now my brakes have begun to pulsate along with my steering wheel. This doesn't happen all the time but mostly when I first get her going.

The instrument panel brake and abs light both come on when I put the brakes on while going around a turn.

It might just be totally confused because of the brake light switch. Start there and see what happens

The first thing which I'd check would be the tail and brake lights, One burnt out filament will render the cruise control inoperative. Then I would check the other things listed. The brake pulsation issue is more likely related to warped rotors rather than a bad controller.

Thanks Nurse, I'll check the brake lights, but would that also cause the ABS light to come on?

As for the brake pulsation, it only happens sporadically, should the rotors be turned and the pads be replaced, what's the best way to solve this?

I had a brake job done last year.

Update: Cruise control is back to normal with just a dab of Dielectric Grease.

http://www.permatex.com/products/automo ... Grease.htm

Brakes are not pulsating today, the brake light is on but the ABS light is off.

Which model Liberty CRD do you own, 2005 or 2006?

Mine isn't the CRD. :?
I wish it was, but I don't think the Renegade came with the CRD did it?
Mine's a 2005 Silver Renegade.

Where did you end up applying the dielectric grease? Was it ultimately the brake light switch??

Thanks in advance! :pepper:

Disassemble the switch from the column .dab the connector.

Is your ABS brake light on also? If so...then it's your Rear ABS sensor on the differential.

When your in cruise does the light on the dash stay on when the brakes disengage the cruise? My cruise light on the dash never comes on. That might help eliminate the brake switch as the culprit.
