Jeep dealership wasn't much help. They said I'd have to replace the whole turbo.

Any help or suggestions?

Thanks,
Brian

They're available for VW TDI's and here one for a ALH engine tdi.

I have no idea if it's the same/close or totally different. But with yours in hand it may be worth a phone call :JEEPIN:

Thanks, I was thinking that they might be similar.

I came across this Forge Motorsports aftermarket one which looks pretty neat:

It also has a set of optional springs which might be helpful if they are not similar.

I have sent them an inquiry to see if this looks like an option.

The VW one looks to work both on the VNT-15 and VNT-17, so perhaps it is the same part?
If so, there seems to be no lack of vendors for that unit.

I also spoke with George or Jorge over at ATP Turbo in California, they had never heard or dealt with the application, but have worked with some of the Mercedes diesel guys and found that switching to a traditional pressure based actuator works well on that application since the diesel is always at pressure you can dial in what PSI you want the vein to switch over. This might require relocating or using a different bracket, but the idea is interesting since it would bypass the vacuum unit and such.

I got a response this morning. Nice when you have people actually willing to work with you!

Brian, you'd need to verify that it is a purely vacuum operated unit and that it can be removed from its bracket via two bolts placed 180 degrees apart on the bottom side of the actuator body. You will also need to provide the measurements specified in the attached image.

Does anyone happen to have their turbo off of their rig or a spare? These dimensions would be great. My rig isn't accessible for another week. :JEEPIN:

The actuator on the KJ VGT cannot be replaced separately from the turbo due to the calibration needed to install it and ensure that the turbo acts in the proper manner.

To install it you have to separate the exhaust housing from the center cartridge, insert a special gauge tool between the vanes, then calibrate the length of the actuator arm to a specific spring tension relative to the actuator preload. It's not a trivial task to do all this properly.

You're better off to replace the turbo as a whole.

I understand tolerances and everything, I've had the turbo apart before, and calibrated it after having the housings ceramic coated. Just need to find a replacement or suitable aftermarket replacement.
