Amsoil Questions

Is anybody running Amsoil? I was talking to a rep at a sport show and was told that their diesel engine oil is rated for 25000 miles when using their filter. :shock:

Is this correct? Is anyone actually doing this? Was this guy on some mind-bending psychotropic meds? I cant imagine not doing periodic oil analysis when going beyond factory service schedule. I've read that I could have an oil analysis done but never found out where or how much. Please advise.

I'm going to be running Amsoil for that change interval but I will be using their bypass filter also. I wouldn't do it without the bypass filter.

I run amsoil and have seen similar claims. I only run mine 6250 miles between changes though. I've had oil analysis done here: http://www.blackstone-labs.com/. I could go longer, but oil changes are cheap compared to turbos and engines.

I have a gasser, and they have an engine oil with the same rating. One guy told me it wold be fine for 25k. Another guy (both Amsoil dealers) told me even though its rated to 25k, he wouldn't go longer than 10k, MAX.

Both AMSOIL Ea Synthetic Nanofiber Oil Filters and AMSOIL Ea By-Pass Oil Filters (EaBP) are rated to a max of 25k miles (or one year).

I'm not a dealer, but someone who (kind of) believes it.

I tried it once for 10K. I went back to Rotella, with bigger oil filter to through the full 7 quart (US) into it, as I don't feel comfortable with my 90 pct highway driving do any higher. I normally cruise just at the 2000 rpm in 5th but sometimes get up to 2200 passing or downhill. I do 100 mi. a day and have 2-4 mi cool downs 40 or less mph before I get to where I am going. or into the driveway.

I also have th EHM and the ORM active all the time

If you do 90% or more highway driving, extended oil change intervals (OCI) are for you! You should easily go 15,000 miles between oil changes with Mobil 1 5w40 or Amsoil oil. When I owned a VW TDI, I drove 3 hours/day on the highway and my oil analysis showed the oil had plenty of additives, low wear rates, low soot (solids), and viscosity was still good enough to go 15k miles. If you have a bypass filter, 20k should be easy to do provided you do an oil analysis for peace of mind. BTW, the AMSOIL actually got a little thicker after 10k miles in viscosity which I thought was interesting.

I do 10k oil changes because its easier for me to remember. I just purchased a harbor freight air powered oil extractor (the 6 gallon one). It is awesome! I sucked out the oil in my Grand Cherokee Jeep (holds almost 10 quarts) in 4 minutes. I then drained it from the plug and there was about 6 oz of oil in there that cam out. Draining all 10 quarts from the plug is a PITA because it comes out all at once and makes a big mess. None of my oil drain containers are able to handle that much flow/quantity all at once.

I run Amsoil oils and filters and and am very happy with them, but I do the normal 6k mile interval change on oil and filter. I've also used rotella-T oil and mobil-1 filters and been happy with them as well.

Unless you have a bypass filtration system and/or centerfuge AND take periodic samples and have them tested, any extended drain interval is playing with fire. The difference is how clean you are able to keep your oil, not just what brand it started as. Not following the manufacturers recommendations means you better know what you're leaving in there is still clean (and it very well may be depending on what/how you run).

Amsoil probably has the capability to be run longer than some others not formulated for extended drain cycles simply because they DO formulate it for that, but it's still a good idea to intervene and remove the particulate somehow.

My motorhome Cummins holds 16 qts, I just put a 5 gallon bucket under it and no problem. No need to jack it up either. :mrgreen:

In a Lubricants World Magazine interview the president of a major national quick lube chain (which is owned by a major petroleum oil company) states that if they can get customers to shorten their drain intervals by 100 miles it would mean an additional $20 million in revenue for the company per year and if they can get consumers to do one more oil change per year it would mean $294 million for the oil change alone and $441 million in revenue when they include ancillary products and services that go along with the oil change. In fact, the president of the quick lube chain openly admits that the bottom line is profits. The shorter the drain interval the more money the quick lube makes. It appears that the short drain interval petroleum oils are good at assuring customers will be back for another oil change in a relatively short period of time :shock:

Quick Lubes are a joke
Especially after the memo they were not replacing any more oil pans even though they were at fault for stripping the threads on the drain plugs.
