I read online that you can run kerosene in the CRD..and they often mix it with diesel to prevent geling in diesel..dont know why anyone would do this as its a dollar more than diesel..but interested to know if this is true... |

Kerosene does not have the lubricity or the energy of D2 or Biodiesel blends. The only time I ever used it was when my wife, then very young son and I did not want to walk to a station that sold Diesel 25 miles away. If I had to do it in a CRD, I would dump in some lubricant like 2 cycle oil. |

its cheaper than diesel here only like 3.49 or 3.59 wen diesel is 3.99. but its untaxed and not legal for highway use here. Like warp said not as energy dense and don't lubricate as well.... I'd use it to make it to a station with diesel if I added 2 cycle oil but not drive with that often. you dont want to cause excess wear to the fuel pump..... have you seen what a Bosch CP3 pump sells for? IF you did you wouldn't think much about burning kero. I was low once out in the county and no station close had diesel but the one I was at had heating oil. when I asked the guy where the closest diesel was and I wasn't sure I could make it he sold me a gallon of heating oil. I made to the next place that had diesel and nothing seemed to be harmed. I'm not sure what the difference is between D2 and heating oil but I think heating oil lubricates more than kero. |

There are like 6 grades of heating oil and number 2 heating oil is very similar if not identical to number 2 diesel. Like off road diesel the heating oil is often died red as there is no road tax applied. |

Old trucker's trick, not that we would ever need or want to use it. Back in the early 90's I was working for a christmas tree company in NC. We were harvesting and loading out on a mountain top. Paved road up the mountain (that wasn't built for an 18 wheeler) and loading in a large gravel parking lot. The big rig that we were loading was pulling the steep grade to the loading area when he stopped dead in the road. The hill was so steep that the fuel ran away from the pick up in the tank. No fuel stations for miles. The driver (an old farmer) had a gallon of motor oil under the seat. He dumped it in the fuel tank. He said that the motor oil would settle in the bottom and push the fuel level up so the fuel line could pick up the diesel. It worked and we made it a few hundred yards to the top of the hill till it leveled off. Farmers know how to get things done. |

did some research..D2 and heating oil are the same thing..one is taxed the other is not..you can run kero and it is often used as a blend in colder weather to prevent diesel from gelling..but like you all said it need to be lubricated.. |

Find it most interesting how many folks consider running fuel, a fuel, or something left in the garage that MIGHT burn, through a very expensive fuel system that was designed for certain spec fuel.

All off road is died red including kerosene for tax purposes. On road is died green so the State Police can ck trucks quickly.

Last I knew, K1 & K2 were still exempt from the ULSD requirement so they may be 500 ppm S in some places. D1 & D2 are the same as K1 and K2 respectively, I believe except for added lubricants, dye and now the Sulfur load. In the winter, D2 is cut with D1 to lower the gelling point here which also lowers the mpg by 2. Those that religously track their mileage kinow what I am mean. One guy even has a summer/winter tracking on fuelly. Hard core .I know the 500 PPM stuff was good for olders vehicles but I've always thought our engines were made for ULSD and choked on the strong stuff. B2 |
