I am considering putting and Edge Perf. Module on my 06 CRD. Anyone have any experience with this product as far as good, bad, performance increase, problems with the product? I had one a few years ago on a Jetta TDI that I used to own. Seemed to work very well on the TDI, but that was not a Jeep. Appreciate any good or bad input.

I don't have one but stoutdog and I spent a lot of time looking at various "cheater" chips (pros and cons) and decided a real tune of the ECU was better for a variety of reasons with the only possible significant downside being that a dealer can override the after market ECU code if you ever let them near the ECU. We settled on the Green Diesel (www.greendieselengineering.com although their site appears to be down at the moment) ECO tune and have been more than happy. GDE will reflash any ECU a dealer overwrites and provides updates to their tune and they sell a reader unit that reads CRD codes and can store your ECU tune so you can reload it if need be. Good folks and very helpful on lots of CRD issues other than tuning, including a nice TCM tune. No I don't work for or have stock in the company, just a happy user.

2X on GDE. I have the ECO tune and am very happy with it. the flash tool was super easy to use. All you do is read your ECU with it send it to him and when I did mine he had my tune file emailed back to me in less than 2 hours. I did all of it with my netbook, my WiFi and his flash tool in my driveway.

X3, GDE is the BEST decision for both your ecu and trans tunes. Yes, they offer a trans tune to put your CRD back where Mopar should have delivered it. VERY happy user here, and I did have an Edge trailjammer for a while. Its ok, but may have contributed to a turbo failure. For that possibility only, I wont use one again.

One thing I should have added is I don't want to mess at all with the ECU for a couple different reasons. The Edge seems to me a way to get a little more performance without messing with ECU. One reason is I still have an extended warranty on my Jeep and can remove the module easily if need be I have to bring it to the dealership. No GDE tune for me. I'm sure people are happy with it but not something I want.

I've had 1 since 2007.... it's only for the serious enthusiast... for other's, there's GDE :P

Since 2007 when you 1st installed it, any issues with it or has it had any negative effects on your CRD? What are your positive effects? Has it lived up to it's claimed performance and expectations? I don't know if I would be serious enthusiast, can you be a little more specific on the definition? I'm a little limited for funds right now and want one but don't want to jeaopardize the reliability of my Jeep and spend money on something that doesn't do what it's claimed to do or cause problems with screwing up something else that might be very expensive to fix. If it does live up to it's reputation claim, then it would be a good investment for me. :juggle:

Not knowing what the Edge thing does to reliability I would shy away from it.... gerodi thinks it added to his turbo problems so that would doublely keep me away. The GDE tunes help with some relalibilty problems related to the EGR system and the stock TC if it were my money I would put my cash away and save for a GDE tune that is known to help with issues more than potentially cause them but thats just my :2cents:

Enough said, I'll stay stock. I "don't" want to jeaopardize my extended warranty that has major components covered from now until 2014. It's a Chrysler warranty.

I'll add one more thought not knowing your financial situation as the thought is not particularly cheap but if you purchase the GDE tune and the flash tool that puts you in the position of being able to reload the factory tune if you ever need warranty work done. Functionally the same as pulling a chip. The only reason I mention this is that the GDE tune, in addition to more power and better economy, does some nice things that are likely to reduce the chance you will need any service (warranty or otherwise) on certain systems.

Let me add to that comment: the dealer cannot detect anything about what tune you are running. They hook the car up to the computer, which then connects to Mopar and updates everything that might need it to the Mopar flash. Simply overwriting what was there. If you have the flashtool, you save the shipping time in restoring the GDE tune yourself instead of mailing the ecu back to GDE so they can re-flash it.

GDE also offers update support, as well as Keith being a heckuva guy to our group for developing this specifically for a group of only 20k vehicles...

I had the Edge and I pulled it when I got the GDE EcoTune.
The EDGE isn't a bad option - but it's not as good at the GDE.

I ran mainly on switch 1 - Eco version and so power levels were about the same, Economy was about the same.
the Edge has faster throttle response - mainly because it's tweaking the injector pressure higher, the GDE is spools the Turbo 1st - (as long as the ScanGuage is active) you're running higher turbo pressures along the entire rpm range.
that should keep the injector pump alive longer but keeps throttle response close to stock.

The GDE also tunes the EGR - instead of running the ORM or SEGR.
keeps the CEL off.

on level 2 - lots more power - I only tested it a couple of times - if you're fuel system has problems - you'll go into limp mode easily - make sure you have a good fuel head and a lift pump won't hurt.

One of the nicer things about the GDE tune is now when my fuel guage reads 3/4 tank have 15 gallons left, 1/2 tank I have 10 gallons left and at 1/4 tank I have 5 gallons left
None of this staying on 3/4 tank then jumping off a cliff :dizzy:

The aggressive cruise control has been tamed down a little

For rock crawling the idle is raised when in 4 wheel low

The evic now gives closer MPG readings. (I don't have a evic so can't verify this)

I guess there can be more to a tune then just fooling the computer :pepper:

I have worked with GDE from the beginning of their offering aftermarket tuning. I also have the factory ESP and did not want to jeopardize it. I simply bought a used ECU and TCM to send to GDE. They just need the VIN and injector codes for the ECU. This can be cheaper than going with their tuner. Also, I don't believe they have a tuner for the TCM, yet.

I always return the vehicle to stock configuration before taking it to a dealer. I know the dealer scan tools have not, as of yet, been able to detect GDE changes, but what about how the vehicle performs? It is so much faster that anyone having driven a stock one couldn't help but notice the difference. Also, the trans tune is even more dramatic and can't be missed.

Once the dealer suspects modification, the "jig" can be permanently up. Don't want to risk that.
