OK posted this before but my transmission sometimes has a mind of its own for the last 100k or so miles. Transmission shop scanned the computer and said that the TCM is bad. Where does a guy get a TCM for a diesel Liberty or is this truely the problem?

Do you have a Scangauge plugged in to the OBD port?

Ther are search engines for autoparts. Get the part number off the TCM and earch for one. I got one for $120 shipped.

You can also find one out of a gas KJ 2004-2006 for maybe around $60-80, then have us flash our TCM tune on it for use on the CRD. Might as well have a good shift schedule for your rig's fuel economy. Have you noticed any issues with the torque converter? Engine stalling after cold start or shudder during lock-up? TCM failure is uncommon.

Never noticed any issues with torque converter. Sometimes sitting at a light it will shift in out of gear rapidly. Thought it may be a soleniod pack so I took it to a friend who owns the transmission shop. Sometimes it will go into failsafe and seems to be stuck in third gear. When this happens I can turn the key off then right back on and it will shift properly. It may work fine one week then have a fit the next. There was no ryme or reason as to how or when it would act stupid however now it seems to do it every day. When it was under warranty the dealer never could find anything wrong and its been doing this for 100k miles. It would be nice if someone had a loner to test before spending money and throwing parts at it.

Check the cable running down behind the engine to the transmission for chaffed areas or melted areas from the exhaust pipe.

X2 mine burn on the EGR tubing causing my tranny to never get in 4 or 5 gear (Fail save mode) for 20 minutes.I can feel the damage with my hand but can look closer, the technicien drop my tranny to have access and repair this câble.

I got a spare TCM and soleniod pack result of a bad scan and one attempt to correct the problem based on reflextion and guess I made.....

I suggest you check the wiring closely your description of the problem seem coming from a intermitent electric contact.

I have a friend who owns a transmission shop. He cannot scan my transmission. I assume it has to do with the odd data bus the CRD has. I would bet the TCM is fine. Where are you located?

I am in Waco,Tx.

Location to look for, from under the driver's side look up to the EGR valve, you should be able to follow the cable from the connector on the tranny. It looked OK on mine but once I ran my hand around it the plastic harness tubing crumbled and had been missing on the back-side. This looked like a prime spot for it to chaff. I split a piece of heater hose , wrapped it, and secured it with a tie wrap to what appeared like a tie down point, I think the harness was partially anchored here anyway. So far so good, no more transmission gremlins........

I tried chasing all the wires and found none that were suspicious. I moved them around hoping to find a short. I unplugged every connector just to see if maybe it was a bad connection. Still doesnt shift properly and must be going into limp mode and jacking the line pressure up because its down shifting hard enough to chirp the tires now. Its seems to be acting up all of the time now instead of part time. Transmission fluid is nice and there are no noises at all from the transmission or convertor. I will check wiring again to be sure.

Reading up on the 545rfe transmission and many of the gas engine versions have had the throttle position sensor cause the shifting problems. Do we have a throttle position sensor on the CRD?

Yes and No Our CRD's are "Drive by wire" and the throttle pedal is a variable resister
