For some time now I have been following the ongoing debate about disabling the EGR and fitting the EHM or Provent system. I have not been too concerned about it until now; a few days ago my 2002 2.5 CRD blew the CAC hose going from the intercooler to the inlet manifold so I had to limp home.
I replaced both CAC hoses with OEM ones as it is a major issue trying to get Samco hoses here in a hurry.
What concerned me is the major amount of oil and gunk in the hoses and inlet and I presume in the intercooler as well.
The EHM fix is easy to undertake and I believe the EGR disable on the 2.5 CRD is very straightforward as there are no sensors in the inlet to the turbocharger that causes error CEL codes to be thrown up; all I have to do is block the vacumn pipe going from the EGR solenoid to the EGR valve....the ECM does not check that the EGR valve is actually working on the 2.5 CRD!
My question is: will disabling the EGR valve cause any major rise in EGT which could cause engine damage? According to the 2.5 CRD Workshop manual I have it states that the bypassed exhaust gasses introduced to the inlet manifold causes a lowering of the EGT due to leaning out the mixture.
I would just like some assurances from the many CRD owners here who have disabled their EGRs that there is no cause for alarm as far as causing engine damage from an increase in EGT. The bulk of my driving is a combination of short journeys and high speed freeway driving.

An EGR lowers combustion temperature which in turn lowers EGT. The best thing to do if you disconnect the EGR is open the exhaust and keep the intake free breathing by changing the air filter often. I done that to mine about 90K miles ago and have no issues with a disabled EGR. I believe it saved me lots of headache that others had experienced. :pepper:

Been driving without one for the last 3 years or so and no issues. I do let the turbo cool down after a drive and I drive the KJ like my grandmother would..so... :SOMBRERO:

X2

Opening up the Exhaust will drop the EGT ~200F
More benefit than leaving the EGR operational.
To put Nitrous Oxides into perspective, the trees, shrubs, grass, vegi crops contribute more NOX than you CRD.
You drive way or parking space that eliminates the grass where you park reduces NOX as much as EGR.

Diesel Engines produce NOX (Nitrous Oxides) by high compression where Nitrogen forms bonds with Oxygen.
Under under almost perfect conditions, NOX will form Smog in places like LA, Las Vegas, and other Western Desert Valley areas. If you see the same NOX rich stuff with out the added exhaust over a Midwest corn field it is called HAZE. Waste Water Treatment produces NOX so the treated water does not kill fish, Acid Head Hippies have not yet tried going after Waste Water Treatment, guess they don't want to get sick and die from the results of their actions.

Plants produce NOX by just growing, it is just part of Nature. In fact according to EPA published documents show that Agriculture produces 6.9 times more NOX than all forms of mobile transportation. Acid Head Hippies are afraid to find out how much none Agriculture plants, trees and algae produce NOX because it would blow their case to where guys like George Soros plan to retire with their best friends (I don't want to use the "H" word).

More proof the case the EPA/CARB built against Diesels is pure WACKO Political Agenda based upon Complete Junk Science.

Their Global Warming/Climate Change Junk Science is falling apart as well, you would think they would learn that lies and falsified data just come back to haunt them.

Perhaps our Grand Children will find the NOX Hysteria, Global Warming Hysteria, and Climate Change Hysteria as stupid as Female Hysteria in the late 1800's. Even though there were Doctors treating Female Hysteria as a specialty and making good money doing it, it all turned out to be Total Junk Science, thank Goodness.
