Post subject:  Ordering parts 2005 & 2006 differences question
I need a shift cable for my 2006 CRD. When I look up the part on any of the popular mopar sites I notice that they give no special option for CRDs. The 2005 cable is way cheaper, does anyone know what the difference might be? Will either of these actually fit the CRD?

According to the 2005 parts catalog there are 2 cables associated with the 545RFE transmission that's in all CRDs. A "cable gearshift control" part #52104320AA and a "cable gearshift lock" part #52104319AC. Those same cables in the 2006 parts manual are #s 52109781AA and 52104319AC respectively.

At this point it gets strange as Mopar Parts America says #52104320AA is for 02-04 and #52109781AA (now suffix AB) is for 06. No mention of 05.

Bottom line if you need the gearshift control cable for an 06 CRD it looks like you need part #52109781AB which seems to run about $50. At a guess the cheaper cable may be the gearshift lock cable or a manual shift cable.

I'd suggest you call them with your year, model, engine, transmission and ask just to be sure. As for those of us with an 05, who knows.

That's actually very helpful. Will call them and see what I can find out. The cable still works, but the plastic retention piece is broken, which makes it a little sketchy getting in to park. I broke the plastic piece when I put the new TC in. :oops: :banghead:
