Post subject:  Greasing The Liberty
To Whom May Answer,

Good day. Since i have owned this vehicle (year and 1/2) I have asked over three different dealerships to grease axles and such if needed. They all say that nothing needs to be greased on the Liberty because everything is sealed. Is this true? I get a little worried about this when I look around post and see that some get there rear axles and such greased.

Can someone possibly list the areas that can be greased during oil changes or when I have an hour or two of free time without needing to dismantle anything too serious. Thanks for the responses.

As far as ball joints,tie rods ends,and u-joints everything on a stock KJ is sealed so yes they are right that nothing needs greased.

You can grease the door hinges,hood hinges,and swing gate hinges but that's about is and takes 30 seconds with a can of white lithium grease to do all those spots.

Grease? Well not exactly, but regularly lubed, yes. It is in the service schedule towards the back of the owners manual. The owners manual is hidden from casual observation in the glove box. When you open the glove box, it is in a compartment above the glove box well in a canvas holder.

You will need to lean over onto the passenger seat and look up and under ya-hoo bar (that's what my kids call it :o , and my wife :( :( ) on passenger side.

A known good habit is to actually grease the splines of the driveshaft's end, where it connects to the transmission. Simply remove all bolts on the differential side, slide and pull back, stuff some grease and re-insert, refasten and you're done! This will mostly prevent knocks when engaging forward or reverse...

It's part of our through away society, everything being sealed.
This way you can replace the ball joints, tie rods ends, and u-joints sooner, many of which you can get with grease fittings. Of course part of the reason was not everyone was as maintenance conscious as you so it is cheaper and faster to build everything sealed. I like using that Amsoil synthetic multi-purpose spray grease on the other parts tjkj2002 mentioned. Plus it's red so I can see it went where I intended it to go. :SOMBRERO:

Then there is the effort to go to the other extreme. :juggle: A friend who works for UPS stopped by with a new diesel truck which had a grease container under the hood with a lot of small hoses connecter to it.
Ever time he starts the truck it pumps grease through all those hoses :SOMBRERO:

Auto-luber. They work great. Still have to manually grease any rotating parts.
