Post subject:  How hard is it to remove the injectors?

Hi again
The fault on my CRD has been put down to faulty injectors, they are returning a large/far too high amount of fuel back to the tank. The garage has told me I could take them out myself & have them reconditioned, but will they come out? anyone had ago, good or bad experiences.Thinking I could have a go over the bank holiday maybe! :juggle:
many thanks
Dave

What code is being thrown?

I pulled one of my injectors, Think the front three are easy to get to. Back one may have some challenges.

Make sure the recess they sit in is clean before you pull them. Spray it, clean it, vacuum any crud out you can before you remove them, Don't want anything falling in the cylinders.

You will have to get new retaining bolts, copper washers and O rings. The bolts stretch over time and will break way before you've reached torque spec. From experience I can tell you its a pain in the butt to remove the broken bolt.

Exact same thing happened on my CRD...

Get your shop to tell you which injector has the high leak quantity issue and only remove that one (since it's unlikely that all 4 failed at the same time). You don't want to monkey with them if you don't have to, for all the reasons Bugnout mentioned. Having said that, they are pretty easy to get out. #4 is a bit more work, but not too bad (that's the one that failed on me).

One other thing to add to Bugnout's list ... The FSM tells you to put anti-seize on the injector body before reinstalling.
