I had a strange experience last week that wound up costing me $750, and wanted to insure the forum database had note of the issue. I got out on the road, up the ramp onto the interstate, and suddenly had no power unless I had the go-pedal floored, where I was able to hold 60, and even accelerate slowly beyond that. No check engine light, however. Got off at the next exit, a mile or so down the road, and on the ramp shut off the engine to restart/reset limp mode. But the engine was hard to start, and after I did get it started, it ran very rough, sounded like only 2 cylinders firing. Nursed it through a couple lights into a parking lot. Only way to move at all was floor it, and wait forever to slowly creep up to about 10 mph, when it would develop enough power to pick up speed. In the parking lot, I pulled error codes P00299 and P00300, which are low turbo boost and random misfire, respectively. Towed to the dealer, and they diagnosed the oil and control hoses to the turbo were leaking and the "throttle body" was fouled with oil, and there was a software bug that required a reflash that hadn't been done. $500 labor and $250 for parts, and I'm back on the road, seems to be running fine. The vehicle has 123,000 miles, and had the timing belt replaced at 100,000 miles. I also have a Provent on it, which although it removes a lot of oil from the intake stream, was not quite as thorough as I thought it was. |

If you have the Provent, you must check it as reg. maint. to make sure it is not clogged up with oil. On my CRD, my EHM hose runs down the pass. side of which I have inserted into a cutout hole in the frame. Cut the hose end on a 45 deg. angle to make sure it stays free. Works great, no drips or excessive fumes. |

My provent fills up with oil before my next oil change. I have an extractor and just suck it out which takes less than a minute. |
