My mechanic at the dealership used the scanner for ABS codes and found that the ABS sensor on the rear differential was faulty so he replaced it. But now the ABS light and the brake light are back on.

I read on one the previous posts that it could be the wire/connector but I can't locate the post.

Has anyone experienced any issues with the rear ABS sensor and the connecting wire going bad?

pigtail wire to the sensor can rub on the undercarriage. replacement pigtail is available--'bout $35 i think. I replaced one & IT was defective! Also check front wheel sensor wires--they can chafe & wear through, too.

(I'm in CT, too !!)

I bought all the parts to do the job and I am considering doing it myself, I have a difficult time trusting the dealer.

I would do it myself, but have no garage & i feel it's too big of a job to do in the driveway. I share your feelings on trusting dealers. I have "interviewed" 4-5 dealers regarding the TB service. Only 1 gave me any degree of confidence.(Gengras in Hartford--I actually talked to the diesel mechanic--not just the service writer)

One dealer even asked if I was sure it was a timing belt & not a timing chain ! Yeah...I couldn't leave there fast enough!

Are you doing the water pump & thermostat, too?

I am seriously thinking of doing the timing belt job myself and I would not install the water pump, even though I have the pump on the shelf. I already installed the thermostat, that was an easy job and I have removed the mechanical fan and running the vehicle without it. I think I am trying to get myself ready to do the job while reading and understing as much info on the subject as I can.

Racer,

What's so intimidating about installing the water pump? I also have all the pieces to do the TB service including water pump, thermostat, etc. I have replaced many water pumps on multiple vehicles and none have been particularly nerve wracking. However, the TB job does concern me because of potential catastrophe if I screw up.

I'll leave well enough alone, the water pump is rated to last for another 100,000 miles.
