Sir Sam an excellent writeup that I intend to use it to swap my TB in a month or so. I didn't notice any torque values listed? The only thing I can see that would be critical are the cam gears. Maybe include that so those of us without a service manual can get things right.

Yup....I'll update the writeup with that.....for the record the camshaft bolts need to be torqued to 80ft-lbs.

Also, the service manual is available as a free download.....look for the link in the noob guide.

Amazing to say the least... Great write up and thanks a lot for taking the time. I'm now tossing the idea around of tackling this myself.

For Level II maintenance in the Sir Sam Guide,
Is there is a list of all the idlers and tensioners that are replaced?

I'm trying to get my order together.

Thank you,
Bill

There are two timing belt idlers and one timing belt tensioner, the part numbers are listed at the top of the writeup.

There are two idlers and one tensioner for the serpentine belt. I do not include them as part of the timing belt job. IIRC the serpentine belt tensioner is about $180.

For what it's worth to do the timing belt job you obviously have to pull the serpentine belt which I like to change at 50K intervals, don't recall what interval is recommended. I'd recommend you do the same but, in contrast to the timing belt, the serpentine belt idlers are easy to get to (if you have done one of the recommended fan shroud mods) and the same "idler" is the pulley part of the serpentine belt tensioner. If those bearings are solid (not weaping grease or loose) I'd just toss on a new serp belt and drive.

If you need replacements the 3 idlers can be had from NAPA for $19.99@ (PN 36101 - just lose the big washer). I will note that those idlers, at least the NAPA ones are steel and have chinese made bearings. Good in that the bearing can be pressed out and new ones pressed in if you can figure out the right size but not so good that the bearings that come with them are chinese. What I don't know is if the factory idlers on the vehicle now are steel. If they are then just the bearings can be replaced but unfortunately I don't know the size.

Appart from it's idler, which is replacable, if the serp belt tensioner is not leaning into the power steering pulley it's probably ok.

Sorry for the confusion: that will be Saturday, July 21st! I was looking at the wrong month on the calendar when I told Striperman36 the 19th. My bad.
