I have 94k on my 2005 purchased new in 3/2005, and over the span of its life:

Had the following replaced under warranty: overheat gauge recalibration; fuel filter assembly, and torque converter. Recently, blew the lower turbo hose, but maintained enough power to drive to a dealer for replacement. Last fall, my check engine light went on and was diagnosed as a glow plug. I didn't do anything while I tracked the resolution and progress of the glow plug threads on this forum. Recently asked a dealer for estimate and got $1000 quote which is too much. Anyone know a shop that will do the glow plug replacements at reasonable price near Denver? I ran the whole winter with the bad plug and found it much harder starting this winter with the bad glow plug, but no problem whatsoever if engine heater is used which I use almost nightly in the very cold mountain air. Timing belt replacement is just around the corner.

Overall, I have confidence in the engine and is running perfect.

Got mine used with 24K on her in September 2008. Now have 95K on her, and other than window regulators (now Steiger, tyvm) and a stalling issue (I put too much fluid in the trans when I replaced the filters) I have had zero problems. Like many others, my mods have been in the interest of prevention rather than to correct an issue. I buy brand-name fuel from high-volume stations, change the oil every 6,250 with Mobil 1 TDT 5W-40, and every other oil change I change the fuel filter. I also have changed the boost pressure solenoid filter twice, just for fun. Timing belt, coolant flush, and serpentine belt are coming soon.

However, there have been a few on here that have experienced catastrophic failures. As with any vehicle line, there will be some that grenade - at issue is whether or not the KJ CRD grenades more than others. Early problems with the CRD in the US gave it a bit of a reputation - but without that, would the CRD section on LOST be what it is? Without Old Navy, Darby, and the others that were essentially test mules for this vehicle, where would we be today?

running good and looking good. I got the minir body damage I had fix a few weeks ago and just gave it a quick wax over the weekend. It just passed state safety inspection today needing nothing. last year it only took a light bulb to pass. I think next year for inspestion I may not be so lucky. for me a few good years like that and the next grab your ankles. I hope not but I do try to keep up on the maintance pretty good. I'm almost due for a fuel filter and think a transmissin fluid change and transfier case service would be good soon

Well as luck would have it I noticed today at 41k miles my serpentine belt is leaving "dust" all over the place :banghead:
So I went to NAPA and got a new belt and when I had the old one off I found the alternator clutch pulley is locked up :dizzy:
After putting on the new belt I made an appointment to have it replaced at the dealer. With my extended warranty it will cost $100 deductable. I put on the new thrmostat myself but after reading about the problems others had on what should be a simple job I'll let the dealer do this one :ALONE:

100,600 miles original owner and rolling strong. Finished timing belt and drove to Iowa 5 days later and pulled 31.6 mpg with the AC rocking entire way and the wife's lead foot for many hours.

I've had all recalls done.

Second generation fuel head replaced but never had air in fuel.

ORM since 25k and GDE at 90k.

Actually paid stealership for scheduled maintenance at 50k to keep warrenty going, was 506$ for everything ( trans/radiator/diffs/transfer case/oil changed)

A blend of B5-B20 religiously from gas station (went 70k on first fuel filter)

Love this little tractor.

Samcos installed but original hoses still intact.

Fuel economy has improved with the GDE Eco-Tune. Getting 31.5 on freeway at 70+ mph. Towing the travel trailer: 17 mpg @65 mph with a/c. Only current problem is that cruise control isn't working.

Had mine since new (3 miles on it). Had the EGR go out under warranty, also had 2 window regulators. Other than that it runs great. No EHM but had the ORM for about 30,000, miles. I now have the GDE ECO tune for 20,000 miles. Mileage is up and the oil runs a lot cleaner. Timing belt to be done this winter.

I've had mine since new and only replaced the fuel head and the resister for the heater motor, it now has 42,000 and the oil is changed at 5000 and drive system is changed once a year.

Well, mine's running fine, but I probably have one of the more expensive KJ CRD's out there. The list of replacement parts is extensive

front passenger brake line (catastrophic failure)
power steering pump (catastrophic failure)
rear driveshaft (shuddered heavily)
front wheel bearings (shuddered heavily)
starter (worked some of the time)
engine cradle and front left control arms (OK that was completely me)
tailgate, spare, and cover (that was the guy behind me)
EGR valve
long block, turbo, injectors (all to fix a check engine light - truck was running fine)
couple sets of ball joints
couple of torque converters, trans pump and valve body (recall and then the stalling when coming to a stop thing)

All told about $15k on Chrysler's dime, maybe about $1k on mine.

Coming up on 6,000 miles on my 2011 JKU now. Had it since Memorial Day...and every day that goes by I miss the CRD engine more and more. Sure, the top off on a gorgeous day is nice, the extra interior room is nice, etc. But for day to day use you simply cannot beat the KJ CRD.

I'm not quite going to say that I wish I hadn't traded the CRD in just yet... but I will say that I miss that engine a LOT. With 101,000 on the clock it made me ten times happier when I turned the key than this minivan gas engine.

If you are contemplating ditching your CRD like I was, my advice would be to think long and hard about it. There's nothing else on the market here that will drive like the KJ CRD.

Ok mine is running alright but has a few things that need fixed. Such as the intercooler hoses, Motor mounts, vacum reservoir control circuit all need changed. And the timing belt needs to be changed. And after hot tune is installed so does the torque coverter. I think thats it. Lol

I have to change my vote, mines not running at all. For some reason the fan fell off and stabbed a hole in my radiator. I don't know why it would do that, the pulley came off the idler. The nut is tight, all the accessories are fine, and all the idlers spin fine including the one the fan is bolted to. It just doesn't make any sense why it would come apart like that.

Does anyone in Colorado have a radiator for a 2005 CRD? (I ordered one today)

Thought I would add these, I counted 8 damaged cores.

106,000 miles, running fine. Despite pumping the fuel head and putting in limited platium oil additive in the tranny, still get an occasional minor shudder at highway crusing. Still running the original EGR valve, but used provent from day one. Replaced turbo and charging hoses at 80,000 miles, timing belt and thermostat at 100,000 miles. TBD list includes fuel lift pump, tranny shift kit, and maybe an OME lift. Love the torque!

All better now, I got her back together tonight. I had to order a used radiator out of South Dakota, because I couldn't find a good aftermarket rad. They all had a 1" core, and the stock rad has a 2-1/4" core. I never did get the plastic fan, but when I do I will be replacing the steel fan.
