Post subject:  Steaming Rear Wheels
While starting to wash the Liberty, the rear wheels boiled when hit with water. First reaction was to accuse daughter of driving with park brake on. After I, and the rear brakes cooled down, I discovered that the park brake has seized up with rust, will keep posted on outcome. This may explain my recent erratic MPG.

Apparently a not uncommon problem from other posts and not limited to the CRD.

Just came back from the jeep dealer with two levers, two equalizer struts, and a bag of hardware the for park brake at a cost of $115.00 ouch! Do the axles need to be removed to get the levers out?

to pull them - you adjust it all the way in and then try to pull the break drum off
this will be hard - there's a ridge and commonly some interior rust on the drums
personally I did the Parking brake rebuild at the same time as the rear brakes and
I replaced the rotors - it's still a pain to disassemble.

(and NAPA was a bit cheaper on parts)

Well, I was planning on replacing my rear rotors when I encountered some similar issues. After some sever pounding and prying on the old rotor I finally got one off. Only to find those little brake liners had fallen off the shoes. :( So, I guess the best bet is to get a rebuild kit.

Anyone have any preference on rotors?
It looks like those at Advance Auto come from China. It's getting harder & harder to find anything made in the USA. I wish we could send our secret weapon to China.

I'd suggest having any brand new China rotors turned on a rotor to ensure they are straight. I had purchased some premium rotors that were China made and they weren't true. A quick spin on a lathe fixed that problem and they have been great for past 11 months or so with no issues.

I love my DBA rotors and EBC pads but that setup is NOT cheap. Around $680 in parts.

Just wanted to say I've also had the parking brake rust away. And some shields that are back there too? Those are on back order, I guess.

All but one E-brake came unbonded. So I didn't use the remakes when I replaced them. Spent a few more bucks hoping the new ones will stay bonded :rockon:
