I got a 2005 CRD on saturday and am loving it.

Everything looks good and is at 60,000mls.

It seems that the entire jeep is stock, so I read the noob guide and am going to go to work.

But

My question is: Because no mods were done to the intake situation, does the intake need to be cleaned? or should the mods that not allow soot and oil in the intake suffice?

thanks and Love my Jeep!

Welcome, Your now hopelessly LOST...

Do the maintenance outlined in the NOOB guide, should give you a pretty good idea of the state of your jeep. Clean the MAP sensor and check your turbo inlet hose for oil damage. (I haven't read the guide so not sure what else it suggests  )

I got mine like 3000 miles ago and did all the suggested stuff on the noob guide. also found out that the provent filter and eliminating the EGR (whichever method you use) is the best thing you can do. I also went further and took the elbow air inlet off and cleaned it from a major clog of soot and oil, so that is something you might want to try, specially since you think you crd is still untouched stock.

You might check out your thermostat and fan clutch as per the methods described here. Both were bad on mine at 69k miles and I don't think the previous owner ever knew why it was so cold in the cabin during the winter. I could tell by looking that my CAC hoses were new.

Well,

did some quick checks yesterday. Removed the MAP sensor thinking it would be cruddy after 68,000mls stock. Strangely...it was just dusty! No real clogging...

Also checked the main intake hose near the MAF sensor and it was clean as a whistle....

SO....

either the dealer cleaned that stuff when someone traded it in....(doubtful)

or it was babied.... :?
