Yeah, that reminds me it's almost back to school again and time to put up with a load of noob bus drivers who don't realise that they should be using the side of the pump with the large nozzle. Doh!

Has anyone modified or changed out their filler neck to accept the truck nozzles? Several times on vacations I have had to leave fuel stations because they dont have "auto diesel" pumps. Doesn't happen often but enough to frustrate me. Frustration also sets in when I use the pumps with the spiral spring things that get struck in the filler neck. Looking to modify my CRD and TDI, which has a smaller hole than the CRD. |

A number of members have removed the filler neck from the vehicle, drilled out the filler plate/flapper and re-installed. I haven't done it myself, keep thinking I'm going to go look for one at the junk yard. |

Yup, my filler neck is completely cleaned out, I fear no thunder nozzle. It was a pain though to do the job, but I did it the hard way by not dropping the tank. |

Modifying the filler neck is a great idea. I just shoved the nozzle next to the hole and filled with caution. It sure took a while to get it filled up but I persevered. This is definitely on the to-do list. |

I modded my own, in a two-part process. I actually cut the tube behind the filler neck (because I just wanted another challenge and I am stupid) and re-connected that with a short section of fuel-impervious silicone tube from a hydraulic shop. I would maybe do a boneyard replacement (and mod that) IF I knew I could find exactly the same thing. That was partly why I wound up cutting the tube - I broke part of the mounting tab off (its plastic) and screwed it up. I really might just be a giant idiot. So I had to go source another neck, and just cut that one in a similar manner. Beware, some of the fuel caps might lock in a different manner to ours. As for how to do the mod itself - Dremel extension wand (like a big pencil that holds dremel bits) and a couple bore / cutter tips that could eat plastic. Rough it out from the inside, then using a larger flatter grinding bit, smooth it back toward the outside of the neck so it looks factory. Yea, it would be easier if moron (me) had dropped the tank and unclipped the hose clamp from the neck. But that would have involved a few more braincells than I had working that day. |

I want to do mine too.... I get the effing craps of going to a strange station or a truck stop and no auto diesel pump or there is only one and it's busy or blocked by a gasser. Problem is I am a bit shy about trying it with out some pics or a more detailed write up on how to do it. I have a single and a multi speed dremel, so its just a matter of blades, time, know how and currage and I'd do it to mine. |

Only if you like using diesel as an aftershave. Those high-flow nozzles WILL cover you in fuel with something like that, and even with opening up the fuel neck, you will still have to be careful to not get coated by splashback. |

Are you guys doing anything with the vents on these when you're modifying them? I did this on my F-250 and LOVE it. Not only do the big pumps fill WAY faster they seam to foam less, I think because the fuel is splashing into the tank for less time. However the fillter necks on my truck have a small tube that the fuel goes through inside the larger outer neck which creates the vent for the air to get out. So on mine I pulled the inner tube and put a larger roll over valve with a much larger hose to vent. This works great, but I'm curious on the Liberty if those of you who have modified them have any issues with the air venting back through the filler neck pushing the fuel out if you try to fill it to fast? |
