I would like to ask opinions on what is the best brake controller to use on a 2006 CRD. I will be pulling a 18' Fleetwood Trailer House that weighs 3200lbs and has tandem axles. I have seen on some posts that the "Tekonsha Prodigy" is recommended. Of course, I just picked up the trailer this monday night and am leaving to go camping this friday. Nothing like cramming last minute work to get ready for camping. I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you

The Prodigy is the most expensive and has the most features. On a Casita forum it is the favorite and most Casita owners are older, me too, and many get confused about settings.

Being cheap and retired I have a Reese Pod and it works fine for me and I got it at Advanced Autoparts for around $50 as I recall. It's also small which is good because of limited space in the Liberty.
Our trailer weights just under 2900# dry so it's in the 3400# loaded range and is a single axel. A google search found them online for as little as $35. Here's a link to reese.

I love my Tekonsha Prodigy. I carry some heavy loads (and now including a Bobcat). It isn't as hard as people think. Just RTFM (and the manual is not long either.) Works beautifully, easily, and the boost function is awesome.

+1

Have loved both prodigy products I have owned (P2 and a P3 in the Liberty). I looked all over this site and never found a good picture of where to mount it, so I ended up putting mine in the pocket in front of the shifter using industrial velcro to hold it in. Works great! I can easily reach the controls and its not down banging on my knees. The wires will all fit through the square hole the factory uses to screw it in.

I got the prodigy P2 in my wife's GC CRD. We tow about 6000 lbs with it and it is incredible! The boost feature is awesome and allows us to adjust the "boost" with different driving conditions, e.g. driving over a 12,100 foot mountain pass that is asphalt on one side (boost 1 used) and dirt on the other side (no boost) used.

I've towed many times with older style brake controllers and the Prodigy is worth every penny. I like that it can be mounted at any angle along the forward axis. My only complaint is that it has no dimmer control (that I know of) for the display.
