This is the Four Wheeler magazine "4x4 of the Year" with the Pentastar V6 already. In the August 2011 issue, they state that the CRD version will be for sale here in the U.S. "before 2013" which basically means 12 months from now. Too bad it'll be $45K and nobody will get one...just like the last Grand Cherokee CRD they ruined over here. |

I ran some numbers based off of what a 3.6 laredo costs in AUS and what a 3.6 laredo costs here, I came up with a figure of $34,388USD for a diesel laredo in the US. If that was really the case on the pricing then I would say thats a fair cost for the diesel laredo. |

I still think the American public is ignorant, ignorant of the economy and performance of small modern diesel engines. With sufficient interest, Detroit automakers would produce and compete for performance and economy bragging rights in the now non-existent market. The environment could be something like the current competition for full size pick ups. They are all over more power and better fuel economy with full size products. Sufficient interest would bring them around to manufacturing products that might interest me. No, that would not include something with a $45k price tag. |

When factoring price comparisons with the Grad as sold in Australia keep in mind that we pay more of a shipping component, plus there is a Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 10% inclusive in that price. So it's not a straight exchange rate calculation. |

I compared what a new 3.6 WK2 Laredo lists at in Aus to what a new 3.6 laredo lists at in the us, found a factor for how much less the US model us, then calculated the diesel WK2 laredo price as a function of that factor. The number I came up with above is that calculation. |

I general you are correct, but that is changing. More people are learning. I see a to of Mercedes CDIs around and the Audi "SUV" as well. I know a guy that works at a Audi dealership and he says he can't keep the diesel SUV (as it were) on the lot. I don't know about Jeep buyer though. |
