Hi, on the LHS of the engine bay is a black box which says VAC on it,it has a filter under it like a normal in line petrol type.My question is,is it ment to buzz, even when the ignition is turned off? ( At least one of the vac pipes goes to the turbo)

Many thanks

Dave

Dave,
Sounds like the boost pressure solenoid filter. It should be replaced every 12,500Mi. It's easy to miss this filter. It's a dealer item but you can get them online.

The filter is not the problem, sounds like the vacuum reservoir solenoid is stuck open. That allows the vacuum to bleed out when the key is off. errr let it suck air in. Anyhow it's only a $32 part.

Thankyou, I had already put a new filter on last week but it still makes the same noise, the Jeep goes into a local garage on tuesday to try & solve the cutting out fault,I just wondered if this had something to do with it & I could save some money & down time by finding the fault myself & mending it,could it cut the engine out under hard/high speed driving? :juggle:
Many thanks

Dave

My RHD 2002 2.5 CRD has that solenoid on the right hand side, right behind the air filter box, near the power steering and brake fluid resevouirs.
As far as I know, that is the solenoid that controls the EGR (Exhaust Gas Regenerator) at the rear of the motor.
Mine has always buzzed from day one when new, I would be interested to know what your dealer has to say about it after they have attended to your Jeep! :?

Purolator little-paper-fuel-filter model # found-in-your-parts-store for about $5. As long as the tube fits the rubber (so get the smaller one) you will be fine. That isn't that special of a part, it is basically just a dust filter.
