help again guys. noise with FT tune.

Hi ppl. Ok here is the case. When I use the FT tune I have a noise between 1800 rpm and 2200 rpm only at warm-up..... after the libby runs for some 3 to 4 miles it goes away and never comes back unless its park for long enough to cool down. The weird thing is that it only happens with the tune, when I put it stock I don't hear anything. I talked to Keith and he suggested I check the timing which I did today, the timing was off some 2 or 3 degrees but now is to manufacturer specs. the noise emanates from the passenger side of the engine. I assume FT=full torque tune and the noise is sort of like a semi-metallic "tick". I'm guessing but under load with that tune the drive train is being pushed a bit so I wonder about motor mounts, CV joints, drive shaft "u" joints, and drive shaft slip joints all of which can generate odd sounds that travel thru the body of the vehicle. With the possible exception of motor mounts any of these could make odd noises under load until things warm up and expand.

both motor mounts were replaced about 3 weeks ago, all heat shields had been check to be torque to service manual specs, new fuel filter head and no air in the system, power is normal. the noise is indeed like a tick that goes along with the expansion cycle of the engine (it is not random) but once its been on the road for some 3 to 5 miles goes away. also, as it shows on the video it is only between 1800rpm and 2200 rpm.

those had been check and I could not find any play or even sings of wear, also the shaft split joint is well grease and I have no vibration when I hear that noise. However, Do you know a good way to check those body components other than visual and moving things up? thnx

I do not have any more bright or even dim suggestions with the possible exception of having a passenger use a mechanics stethoscope to try to locate where the sound is coming from. Not that would be especially ease as the window of time the sound occurs is narrow and it's apparently only when the vehicle is moving, at least I assume that's the case. Do you have any way to get the wheels SAFELY off the ground to see if the noise occurs at the same rpm while the wheels are under power and spinning but not on the ground?

Beyond that I won't be any help.

Here's what I had to do to resolve the noise problem I had.

1. Turbo Heat shield – Tighten all bolts. Bend the heat shield a little to pull it away from the metal if you have to.

2. A small pebble was stuck inbetween the muffler heat shield and the chassis causing a continous rattle at idle but went away at higher speeds. I got under the car and ran a twig inbetween the heat shield and the chassis closest to the muffler .....removed several little pebbles. Rattle gone.

3. Motor mount - replaced passenger side motor mount.

4. A new Euro Torgue converter.

Solved the my noise issues.

I guess i'll try removing the heat shield and make sure it is all clean down there and reinstall torquing it back to specs. The other thing I have been trying to think about is how to replicate the problem while I am at the engine compartment, The noise only happens in movement while at load so just getting the tires to spin probably wont do anything. what would the noises associated to a turbo problem would be? thnx guys, this one is really baking my noodle, I dont know where else to look.
