Post subject:  Fan Pulley Nut Removal Methods

I'm having a great deal of trouble cracking loose the big nut on the mechanical fan pulley. I've heard a bunch of different methods for removal, but there doesn't seem to be a consensus on which method is best and most reliable. I'm hoping someone can chime in with the "eleanor" of fan nut solutions, or what has worked and how much of a PITA was it???

There is a fan removal tool that works good, basically 2 large wrenches one holds the pulley and on is used to loosen the nut. another good way to remove the nut is to use an impact hammer on the edge of the nut to loosen it lots of tech's use that method when working flat rate kinda risky if your not careful. I as both an automotive and diesel mechanic prefer using the tools to remove the fan pulley nut, i also left out PB blast helps a lot with stuck bolts, and if that fails fire wrench lol.

Got mine from NAPA after the other tricks did not work, had it off in seconds.
Then I swapped the steel fan and Mopar fan clutch for the Hayden and 11 blade plastic fan, moves more air and makes the AC work better when it is hot.

If your in the rust belt (Michigan) then PB blaster 1 day prior to removal. Day of, hourly beatings with a 2 foot long wrench/dead blow and more PB blaster. Don't spend much time in the hourly beatings....10-20 wacks and more PB blaster. After 3-4 hours then give it a serious try. I wedged a beefy flat head screw driver into one of the holes that then caught on block. 2-4 serious wacks later and she was removed.

Warp - was that your 'Schley (SP 61600) Universal Fan Clutch Wrench'???

I was planning on trying that - looked better than the NAPA universal one.
