I have installed a remanufactured long block (and a ton of other stuff) in my 05 CRD. My first attempt to crank the new engine has been unsuccessful. I suspect air in the fuel delivery system. I have done the "purge" process with the hand pump on the side of the fuel filter assembly but I know that the high pressure fuel pump, fuel rail, injector line, etc have air in them. Does anyone know what the best way to completely purge the fuel delivery system all the way to the injectors? I don't want to just keep cranking the engine over if there is a better way. |

Nevermind....I just didn't pump the manual pump enough. I took the line loose that goes from the fuel rail to the #1 injector, then cycled the ignition switch to energizes my in-line fuel lift pump and at the same time pumped the crap out of the manual pump until I saw fuel oozing out of the #1 injector line. Then I reconnected the injector line, cranked over the engine and if fired right up. |

It was leaking coolant into the #2 cylinder. I suspected a cracked head. I removed the head, had it pressure tested and the machine shop said that they could not find any leaks but they checked it for warpage and found that it was warped several thousands. I read in the FSM that these heads can not be resurfaced so I started searching for a new one. The word from all of the sources that I checked was that there were none available in the US and they could not give me a estimate of when they would be available. So I checked on a complete long block....new head and all. I found the long block which cost me $3200 and considering that the head alone was $1200 I went with the whole engine. The old engine had 110,000 miles on it and I had just got all the parts for the timing belt change, new water pump, t-stat, etc. So now I basically have a new engine and I'm hoping to get at least a couple hundred thousand miles out of this one. |

Yep...I was cruising along pulling a 21 foot deck boat and looked down and saw the temperature gauge was just about pegged on the high side. I'm not sure how many miles I had gone with the high temperature. Turns out I was victim to a falied clutch fan. I chuncked the clutch fan and put on the fixed flex fan mod but evidently it was to late. |
