Well,
I knew that as soon as Jeep was bundled into Chrysler it was doomed.
Now who bought Chrysler (besides uncle sam) it was Fiat wasn't it?
OK, so, unless Jeep gets bought by a "respectable" car company, (not sure who that would be) the whole product line is... squat as far as I am concerned.
I also think there are many, many more reasons than just the EPA - that small diesels are not in the U.S fleet.
80% or so of the cars in Europe are diesel. Why is that? Don't say because of the EPA in the U.S. It's more insidious than that.
On Top Gear the UK based car show did a real world driving "race" by the show's celebs from somewhere in France to a little coastal town north of London. It was strictly a "best mpg wins" type race. They did have a time deadline so as to keep it interesting. If I remember right there three cars two of which were diesel. The Jaguar that Jeremy Clarkson drove was a diesel and got 56 mpg!!!!! yup 56 mp(gallon) not liter!!! Also look at this diesel hybrid from Peugeot
http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/Peugeot-CitroenThere is much more than "market" conditions as the reasons that the car makers are not selling diesels in the U.S.
To bring my post full circle and to make a point, the Liberty was delivered (OUS) in diesel format since 2002 yes???
