I began leaking fluid and then intermittently lost power steering. I checked the fluid level. The cap was loose and fluid was all over the outside of the reservoir. I continued to loose fluid even though the cap was tight. The fluid is noticable below the resevoir when I shine a light down into it. Is it worth just replacing the hose from the resevoir to the it's entranced point before taking it in to a mechanic. Looks like a pretty simple job.

I have the same problem that I noticed today. Did some mountain passes in Colorado and noticed fluid all over the reservoir like you stated after I was done for the day. I was about to post the same question. My cap and reservoir don't seemed cracked. Cap seemed tight as well. I'll be watching this thread.

Mine was leaking out the end of the rack :juggle:
It took 3 months for a new one to arrive (extended warranty) and the front axel has to be dropped on the CRD to replace it :dizzy:

That doesn't sound good...Sorry to hear you had that problem. I am hoping mine is higher up. The fluid appears to start a bit below the reservoir...

when I look at the manual it appears it is not a mater of disconnecting the hoses from the resevoir to replace them. It appears I have to remover belts, tension arms and a variety of parts.

Has anyone out there changes the two hoses that go to the resevoir who can tell me if it is possible to change them without removing everything else the manual tells me to?

thanks,
Jim

It just occurred to me I used to hear a chirping when the engine was idling. I no longer notice it. If a drive belt was loose that would not affect leakage in the system.....just a thought.

I do not want to sound lazy...ie..mess with the hoses before discovering it is beyond my ability...I do not have time to spend and hour or two only to take it to the shop.

Anyone out there change the hoses 2 and from the reservoir?
