Just wanted say thanks for all the CRD info. I picked up a factory tool set about 5 months ago pretty cheap off eBay while deployed to Iraq, the past couple weeks I was home on R&R and replaced the timing belt, after doing it I agree the belt can be done without the factory tools, but they did make it easier I'm sure. The cam gears still make me wonder, they are just bolted the cams and no woodruff key, splines or anything. The injection pump too, I couldn't ever get it to be dead on, it was a hair off, but the 2006 (what I got) FSM said it didn't even matter, (though I know it said it did matter in the 2005 FSM) then when I just went for it and to check the timing by turning it over twice and reinstalling the cam locks etc, the marks on the injection pump weren't even close at all, so I figure it didn't matter??? I mean it runs great.

Overall, I was surprised at how easy it was actually. I mean there's a lot packaged under the little hood, but it all comes out of the way easy enough. I'm just glad the CRD didn't give the wife any troubles while I was gone, changed the belt at 107,435. I put about 430 miles on it the next two days taking the wife and son on a little trip, drove down near where GDE is based out off, should of stopped and got a tune, but it ran as good as new. I haven't done any CCV mods yet or tune for less EGR, but the hoses/intake didn't seem too oily/sooty, the turbo seemed pretty good, couldn't feel any play and no visible damage to the compressor wheel. I looked for the common problems these are known for, like rotting at the air inlet to turbo hose. I'm very pleased so far with the CRD, I was a little weary after coming here and reading about it's problems after we bought it, but so far so good, haha knock on wood. Now I'm on my way back to the desert, and feel alot better about the CRD. Thanks for again for all the info and great site.
