So this evening I was getting on the freeway on ramp and half way on the power completely cut out, it was all I could do to maintain 40. I immediately got off and as I slowed to a stop it began idling incredibly roughly. When the light turned green it literally would not move. I turned it off and turned it back on and it fired right up and ran the whole way home as if nothing was wrong...

I read on here that there are a lot of problems with the fuel filter head, could this possibly be the source of my intermittent problem? If so what the hell is it doing wrong? Also, probably related, it has been getting significantly worse mileage the last couple of tanks. Thanks.

Edit: did a little more reading and the symptoms sound exactly like air in the system. Guess I'll look into ordering a new filter and head. Just went out and checked and looks like I've got the old style head and the filter was marked as being replaced 40k ago, so probably about due.

Yes, that sounds like the symptoms of a clogged filter.

I can tell you a clogged Filter can make for a really bad day. And 40K Miles since a Filter change is way overdue. I change mine about every 25K miles. And definitely upgrade the Filter Head. I did have the original fail (under warranty) and it damaged part of the Wiring Harness.

Got a new filter head and filter on order, should be here by the end of the week. I was just amazed by how suddenly the bottom dropped out on it. Must have been only running on 1 or 2 cylinders.
