2006 CRD with factory tow package and prodigy brake controller So, I was towing my trailer down the freeway, when the trailer wiring cable came loose and dragged for a couple miles, completely shredding through the insulation and severing half (4 of the 7) the wires...I was made aware by the shuddering and lurching of the my rig. Pulled over saw the problem, and was able to get my buddy out with some tools to butt splice all the wiring back together. Issue: When I got on the road in the evening, my dash/heat/cool/shifter as well as jeep right rear tail and trailer running lights are out. I checked the 4 fuses (10,19,25,9) and all were fine. Any tips or help is greatly appreciated! |

Check your other fuses as well. I had a similar issues a while back with the same symptoms you are having. At first glance the fuses were fine. When I took the time to test them with a meter I found the culprit fuse. The wife has the Jeep right now or I would go out and look at it. That might trigger a better recall. Man I'm getting old. And it sucks! |

Thanks for the reply! If you get a chance to peek at the jeep and/or something tickles your brain and you can narrow down which fuse it was I'd be much obliged! Also, your only as old as you feel (which will make me 1,260 this year) |

On the top of each fuse there two exposed nodes where you can get a circuit tester and test each fuse as it sits in its spot. The tester is clamped to a ground and the other end of the tool is a point. With the vehicle on and running simply touch each node... when one side of a fuse activates the test light then the node on the other side of the fuse should lite up.... if you get a node lit and then no light on the other side>> there is a bad fuse. Thanks for giving me a thorough break down on how to do it. I'm a darn good carpenter, but electrical diagnosis is all new to me. I will swing by the auto parts store and grab a circuit tester first thing tomorrow. Hopefully I can find the culprit that way. Either way, I'll update with any results so that anyone else who suffers a similar fate can find this resource. Much obliged for your help! |

Hey guys- I used a circuit tester and checked all of the fuses in the Junction Block (interior drivers side) and the Power Distribution Center (engine compartment) with the Jeep running. There were 7 10a (#'s 4,5,7,9,26,27,29) fuses that gave no readings at all in the JB, and the 15a (#28) fuse in the PDC that was labeled starter relay. All other blade type fuses tested ok. I visually inspected and tested with a circuit tester all of the cartridge type fuses in the PDC as well and all tested ok. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated UPDATE: Found a blog post http://www.joerandel.com/2009/07/jeep-liberty-electrical-gremlins/ by a guy with a similar issue, and ran through the steps he recommended. After I replaced both the tail light and lower brake light on the passenger side, everything is working properly. Thanks for the help guys! |

Awesome! Great job. I should have thought of that- my wife's VW put me through the exact same thing! ![]() |
