Howdy all,
Newbie here. Got my 2006 Liberty Diesel about 4 months ago and loving it.It only has 48000 miles and runs great. However we got a check engine light the other day and a
"P1140 Exhaust Gas Recicrulation Throttle Control Circuit Open"
Came up.
So I bought me a factory service manual on CD from ebay. When I look it up on what to do the code P1140 comes up and tells me 3 differnt options, and they all have somthing to do with the Vacumn reservoir solenoid. and tells you how to go thought and check the wires and which ones should have voltage.
But I guess I wanna know, has anybody else had this problem and where do i look. IS it EGR related or something else. My local jerk off jeep dealer said he couldnt look at it for 2 weeks and we have a 1000 mile vacation to disneyworld in a weeks. I would hate to not make it if something went wrong. Just loooking for some help.
Thanks
Shawn :?:

There is a motorized throttle plate right at the engine air intake. It's used to control flow of exhaust gas recirculation. The code means that the valve is malfunctioning. It almost always fails in the fully open position. Mine did and I got that code. I drove it for a long time that way. It's not a big deal. If you're under warranty you should get it replaced because it's like a $400 part.

The FSM says P1140 is related to the vacuum reservoir solenoid which is relatively easy to bypass, email me if you want a copy of how, and, I believe, rather inexpensive to replace. However, the FSM has a lot of errors such that, if memory serves, P1140 actually relates to what CATCRD mentions which is the FCV (flow control valve). Nearly as I can tell it really doesn't "do" much so the consensus seems to be if it fails open leave it alone and if it fails, infrequent, closed take the butterfly/flapper valve out (it's only 2 tiny screws but do not drop them into the system) and forget about it UNLESS you have a warranty that will replace it at no or nominal cost. What I do not know is if you can make the MIL/CEL go away. If so I'd like to know how.

You can by getting a GDE tune.
