I am about to get my tranni rebuilt. I have 137,500 miles. Many of the last 50,000 included towing. This month, after 4 hours on the road hauling a trailer (lots of stop and goes) the tranni begins to have trouble shifting. It seems to get stuck in 2nd gear but then shifts around 3000 rpms and then works normal for a while. My mechanic has recommended rebuilding for about 6 months when I have taken it in for other servicing.

The thermostat is not working and I notice it most during the winter. Does that keep the tranni cooling system from kicking in also?

I am assuming my CRD has a tranni cooler built in with the towing package?

137,500 with 50,000 towing - rebuild sounds reasonable.

you have a transmission cooler - it's in the radiator (or maybe AC condenser)- if you're towing - you should probably add an extra one.

in the winter - if it's too cold - it won't shift into overdrive.
