This timing belt job was on a different CRD, my latest addition, CRD #2. It has 104,000 miles on it. Something else different that I noticed on this one, was that the inner edge (facing motor) of the timing belt had been worn with a very polished look to it. I could not see any rubbing on the inner cover. The belt must have been running off, wearing on the inner side of crank pulley.
As for bearing growl, something didn't sound normal compared to my other CRD, but I couldn't pin point where from, I will let you know if it is now quieter after I finish the timing belt job.

I totally agree. I lecture my wife and daughters to turn off the loud stereo once in a while, and listen to the sounds that the vehicle makes, to get an idea of what is normal
