One of the number one problems is the fluid. Yep, I have Amsoil in both of my quirky trannies. So I just placed an order for a few gallons of the Mopar ATF+4. Come to think of it, they never had any problems until I did the fluid change

Well the Sport will be getting a fluid change this week with new filters to see how it goes. I have a plug on the pan, to do it two times should it require more dilution of the Amsoil that will be left in the converter.

I am pretty sure Warp2Diesel has mentioned more then once to use Mopar ATF+4 only?

Mopar Part Numbers
Transmission Filter (pan) 5013470AD
Transmission Filter (spin on) 5179267AC
ATF+4 Quart 5013457AA
ATF+4 Gallon 5013458AA

3.7L and other gasoline voters are welcome as well, be sure to vote based on engine type. CRDs idle lower at cold start and my exhibit more symptoms.

I chose: No (3.7L), other brand and my transmission is fine.

and that is on 2 different KJ's, an 03 & 04.

I must confess I also added Lubegard to the mix...

Different fluid will change the friction characteristics of the clutch plates. The transmission was calibrated to use ATF +4. If you use something different, the transmission will attempt to learn back to where it is comfortable. A similar thing happens when you spend time towing a trailer. Many have noted that after unhitching the transmission takes a while to go back to normal.

Danoid,

Your tag line might be out of date...I think the wife gave in!

Technically I didn't do anything to the WK.

So yesterday I had the WK up on jackstands to rotate the tires. I called her out to the garage and reminded her that, "With a lift kit, it would be about that high."

I got "the look" and she left.

Guess I'll have to wait until I inherit it...

Bunch of testimonials, most of them fluid related. http://www.allpar.com/fix/trans-testimonials.html

I got the Sport fluid changed, today I will do the LTD.

Well, they are both done now. I will have to see what happens in the next couple of weeks or months.

BTW, for those that are using the ATF+4 and still having problems, what problems are you having torque converter or other problems?

ATF+4 in the CRD and ATF3 in my other Chrysler product. Not had any strange behaviour.

Yeah, I've also seen this after babying it through prolonged winter storms on a couple of occasions.

Well a few of the ATF+4 users are having problems, while most are not. I hope they elaborate on the kinds of problems they are having?

Another thing I noticed is the Amsoil fresh out of the bottle has an obviously higher viscosity then the ATF+4.

As far as ATF+4 goes, I heard that Suncoast has a set of clutch packs that don't require ATF+4 (they use them on the 68RFE modified units).
Even though I have a Suncoast converter it sounds like a lot to spend to make it so you don't need ATF+4, unless you need a serious rebuild.

Since I started this post back in the summer, I have had time to test the ATF +4 changes in the libbys. Heres how it went, for the first month there was no difference, as time went by the clutches have lost the coating of Amsoil and we are now transmission problem free in both libbys during cold and hot weather. :google:

Mine seems to have a completely random 2-3 delayed/bang shift that the rear locket seems to make feel worse than it is. I've just learned to live with it. Also, in cruise when going downhill, it will hiccup (for lack of a better term) sometimes.
