| Post subject: | Fuel mileage when towing |
Hi, After the debacles of last week and borrowing my friend's Boost Hose, I did manage a 350km each way trip tot he Kootenays of BC towing a 3,200 lbs. trailer. When I picked up my Jeep, I averaged 29.6 mpg for a 565 km trip. On the trip with the trailer, I averaged 15 mpg one way and 15.9 mpg coming back where I rarely exceeded 55 mph. So basically, my mileage dropped in half! I think something could be wrong? When I took off the loaner booster hose to install my new blue Samco ones, I noticed a bit of oil spray on the engine and oil pooling on top of the turbo (the little bowl section between engine and turbo). Perhaps my installation of the loaner Booster hose was not perfectly tight and somehow oil was spewing back onto the engine? Engine sure seemed to be working properly. I have now wiped off the oil and installed my new Samco hoses. We will see if the oil appears again. Also, note the wise. If you purchase Samco hoses and the new clamps, you will need a "Deep" socket to install them as the bolt will reach the end of standard sockets before you are totally tight and leave you in the awkward position of trying to tighten the clamp bolt with wrenches with no wiggle room to work. Cheers |
