Ok, so i was trying to bleed my brakes, but the first bleeding valve i tried to open broke (the valve is still closed tough, so i can drive the jeep). What can i do to take it off? dealer or any garage? Is it really complicated to solve? I'm a bit stressed right now...! can i buy the part online? do you have some websites to propose (i'm in canada) Thank you

if you have a machinist friend, have him take it out, or, replace the caliper. |

Replace the whole caliper.Also check all others. |

Heat it up with oxy acetylene and use and easy out. |

Like tjkj2000 says, "Replace the caliper". There's been several threads lately about sticking pistons in the calipers. The pistons are not metal and are swelling up causing them to stick. But yes it can be fixed. Next time use plenty of BP Blaster and a little heat from a propane torch and take your time

would it be a bad idea to try to ''dremel'' a slut and use a screwdriver to remove it? That way, i would need another valve, so does the bleeder valve on a cherokee is the same as on a liberty? Is there a thread about replacing the whole caliper? I mean do i need to do something special beside the bleeding operation you have to do when you replace the pads? thanks |

Yes you can probably get it out but likely only after pulling the caliper for access and some effort. IMHO you might just as well go with a new caliper as you will have to bleed anyway. New assemblies with or without pads are available from any parts store. They are not CRD specific as far as I can tell from the parts manual and a quick look at O'Reilly's web site the CRD and the 3.7gasser use the same calipers. Note though that there is a difference between front/rear and left/right. Best check to see if you have similar problems on other calipers. I'm one of those that's concerned about phenolic pistons simply because I've had problems in years past, not on Jeep, with these pistons sticking after a brake job BUT not when new calipers were installed. Hence if I was doing a rebuild of a caliper I'd only go with metal pistons. If I was installing new calipers I'd try to get ones with metal pistons but if not I'd live with phenolic. PS it won't help prevent breaking off the bleeder but when working on a bleeder always use a box end wrench. Open end wrench too easily round the shoulders of the bleeder. |

Bleeder valves are the weak link for almost every vehicle's braking system. Unless they look absolutely clear of rust and the hex head is not contorted, I usually replace them every time I have them loose. I also anti-seize the threads. Another option either than stated above is to drill them out. Don't cut into the threads. Then use the easy-out. I bought my first easy-out for the same reason - brake bleeder broke off. |

Conclusion: i tried everything to take it off (heat, cold, penetrating stuff, drill) without success... so i replaced the caliper... thanks anyway! |

For the next time, NAPA sells repair kits to replace broken off bleeders, used them many times. They do take some skill to use. Put a rubber cap over the head to keep the road salt out. Not much of a problem in the Southwest, but in the salt belt, it is an old trick, tried and true. |

anti-sieze and speed bleeders are the way to go. As soon as I can find one for the fuelfilter head, one is going in there as well. I have them on almost all my vehicles. |
