Broken valve trashed my block. Anyone seen a used 2.8 liter VM Motori around. Can't seem to find one locally and dealership want $7200 for a new long block. Appreciate any help. |

I agree with don't drink and drive, but people do drink and drive, so sooner or later an engine will be available. You could have the piston and sleeve replaced along with the head and get going again. Good luck |

If you want to just buy the piston and cylinder liner new, I have a complete cylinder head with valves still available. PM me and we can talk. If you are *certain* that the block is wrecked (Very unlikely, that is the point of a wet sleeve engine) then Vincennes' engine might be for you. |

email sent to Vincennescrd. I am going this evening to look at the engine. Mechanic's report states that the valve was driven through the cylinder wall and into the block - rendering the engine unrepairable. |

The mechanic might not be aware of what a wet sleeve engine truly means, There is a lot of open space behind those liners, they are like big steel beer cans shoved into a holder. Replacing the liner will be a job, certainly, if it bulged out and dented itself in breaking... But if my own cylinder liner failure is any indication, they don't 'dent' very well. The steel is so hard that it fractures instead. That is something that you can work with. Good luck, take pictures if you can. |

Thanks for the info! I will take some pictures this evening and post the result. That would be really good news if the liner could be replaced. |

Are you considering doing this work yourself or paying someone to replace the liner(its all fairly labor intensive). And yes, pictures would be great to see, it would help us make recommendations on the best way to fix it as well. |

Photos below. After getting my eyeballs on the situation I have the following: 1. cracked cylinder sleeve 2. Trashed Piston with imbedded valve 3. Trashed cylinder head - from said piston/valve 4. Broken glow plug Looks like the engine block might be OK after all. Makes me think the dealership is incompetent or dishonest. Not sure which is worse. Estimate for replacing head, piston, sleeve and glow plug is $5700. I am not sure they are up to the job. ![]() ![]() |

Replacing the head is the easy part - I gots one, complete and ready to ship. Hard part will be finding someone to replace the liner and piston. |

And who has access to the couple of specific tools you need to do that(if you actually really need the VM tools or if you can make do with general tools). |
