And I Quote"

The 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD, equipped with a 2.8-liter, four-cylinder, turbo common-rail diesel engine, combines the torque of a V-8, the acceleration of a V-6 and the fuel economy of a four-cylinder engine. Benefits of the Jeep Liberty CRD include:

Best-in-class torque and towing capacity.

Best-in-class range - 500 miles highway.

22 percent higher fuel economy compared with a comparable gasoline-powered Liberty (3.7-liter, V-6 engine).

Lower emissions of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons.

"Diesel engines are also durable — often running hundreds of thousands of miles with little routine maintenance," Bell said.

Chrysler Group is extending the warranty on diesel engines in all 2006 model year vehicles; the Diesel Engine Limited Warranty covers engine parts and components up to five years or 100,000 miles "

so what is DC position on a 5yr/ 100,000 mile warranty for the diesel?

I saw that article quoted several places and another article stating something similar last year when I started shopping for a new CRD. It convinced me to wait another year to get a CRD. I sweated through another South Florida summer in a car lacking air-conditioning. As far as I've seen there is no extended warranty anywhere.

Aaarg! I want to see Dr Z on the mat trying to explain his way out of that.

No doubt about the VM diesel lasting 100,000 miles  That said the EGR valves, torque converter and transmission pump won't last and they are not the "engine". Some 06 owners manuals talk about a extended diesel engine warranty that starts at 36K or 3 years but no one has gotten that verified. I'm not sure if I'll take a chanch on it failing under warranty or if I will buy a extended warranty. For me 3 years will be here before 36K miles.

My understanding is the EGR is basically hopeless. Are there any compatible replacements for the torque converter and transmission pump that will last longer than DC's crud ?

Check this thread.

There's a new transmission oil pump. Not sure about the torque converter. Also you should think about the EHM (Elephant Hose Modification) [dump the crank case fumes into the air] A common problem on all EGR equipted diesels is oil fumes from the crankcase and soot mix together and clog things up. ULSD should help on the soot and the EHM will eliminate the oil vapors.

Hey Ken, I actually bought the Daimler-Chrysler 100k mile extended warranty on my CRD when I bought it. You should be able to purchase it. If the dealership failed to offer it to you, you should call D-C and let them know and give them a chance to rectify the situation with you personally.

Hope this helps! Later!

This warranty junk has been covered in another thread here. The NC Attorney General has sent a notice on my behalf to DC Jeep specifically asking them to explain the discrepancies between the warranties of certain 2006 LIberty CRD vehicles, in that some have 72months/72k and others have 36monthw/36k on the engine according to the respective warranty booklets. Since I included the press releases about the 60 month/100k warranty, they should give a specific reply. I trust those of you that purchased extended warranties based on the supposed 2006 36month/36k warranty understand that if the warranty period provided by DC is actually longer, as some booklets indicated, DC and your Jeep dealer have committed a fraudulent act, to whit, selling an extended warranty under false pretenses. Either way, DC has some explaining to do about the difference in the warranty booklets.

DC isn't going to do anything they aren't forced to, but they have to respond to the Attorney General. I should hear shortly. When I hear, I'll post it so that it becomes common knowledge.

On a lighter note, I took my first short trip in our 06 Jetta TDI and it coughed up 45 mpg at 70 - 90 mph on a 240 miles jaunt. Gets 33 in city consistently.

I'm a little confused at the issue here. Is it that you guys have not been able to get this warranty? I bought the 100k warranty with my CRD in 2005; so did my father. :?:

I believe the issue is that Chrysler made statements last year that the standard warranty for the engine would be increased to 100K for the 2006 model year. Some people have owners manuals confirming that and some do not. If the warranty on the engine really is 100K, then you should not have been made to pay for it.
