Changing my rear main seal. Everything was going swimmingly, got the transmission re-installed. I went to rotate the crankshaft to line up the flywheel to torque converter bolts and it will not budge in either direction. Ok, rookie mistake, I removed the transmission, thinking that the torque converter was not seated properly and keeping the engine from rotating. Not the case. Now the engine will not rotate without the transmission attached. What could be holding it? It rotated just fine to get the flywheel to t.c. bolts removed. I didn't check to see if it would rotate before I re-installed the transmission. The rear seal went in nicely and everything bolted back up easily. Any ideas? |

You got all 4 convertor bolts completely out? You did not drop any other bolts in there? |

hmm, did you maybe move some bolts around for the rear main that are now binding something? how are you turning the engine over? I always used a screw driver and leverage to move the teeth of the flywheel. |

Thanks for some quick responses! I removed everything back to the rear main seal and it would rotate. Looked at the manual one more time and realized that when I torqued the flywheel hub bolts, I did not back them off the the 25nm + 60 degrees. The hub was too tight. Ok, try to get it right this time. Put the trans back in for the 3rd time. Lessons learned - put the dipstick tube in place just before mating the tranny, not after... - lowering the transmission gives you access to the top bolts... - two people makes it a lot easier, but my helpers keep quiting... - you can do it by yourself... - the manual shows an imaginary transmission collar, look for a rubber cap by the starter to get to the flywheel bolts |
