I understand I should pretty much expect to have to pull all the intake parts out and clean everything and set some money aside for a GDE engine and tranny tune. Ill never tow anything with it, but I understand there are some tranny issues to be concerned about? What should I look for when I drive it? thanks folks. |

KurtP check Sir Sam's NOOB guide. Some obvious items to consider, other than the traditional brakes/tires/body/etc, 1) if the vehicle mileage is in the vicinity of 100,000 a timing belt change is necessary if it has not already been done (cost on the order of $650 each for parts and labor IF you can find a good place to do the work - see viewtopic.php?f=5&t=60730 for ideas) and 2) hopefully it has the 2gen OEM filter head (see picture at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=62441&p=690773&hilit=+fuel#p690773) cost of the head, which comes with a filter, and the wiring pigtail ca. $125. Check the turbo>intercooler>engine hoses. If they are Samco's you are in luck but if they are OEM and soggy with oil they will need replacing (cost ca. $275). Unless you can be positive the antifreeze and ATF fluid are correct (HOAT coolant like Zerex G-05 and ATF+4) those will need to be changed. Run it. Should be powerful off the line with only a very slight bit of turbo lag. Shift into top gear will likely be ca. 62mph if the F-37 recall was fully performed but if not it will be ca. 58mph. Sometimes when they did the F-37 the shop "forgot" to reprogram the TCM. |
