Water in fuel light is on and stays on for 5-10 minutes of driving. I have changed the filter pulled the sensor tested it with a cup of water and a ohm meter and it works perfectly. Does anyone know why this light wont go off? |

I have been through several probably more than 10, keep checking the filter and there isn't any water. |

It maybe a faulty sensor located at the bottom of the fuel filter, try cleaning it. Test the sensor and the connector with a meter. |

Sometimes those sensors just go bad. Replace it. |

I pulled the sensor tested it with a ohm meter and a cup of water it operates as it should, Connection when it touches water open out of the water. There is no continuity between the two plug terminals either. The light remains on even if the sensor is unplugged. Is there a need to reset something, check with a code reader and no codes being thrown. |

Do you run Off-Road? I run off-road in my Cummins and it does that. It won't go off, even with a new sensor, and filter, it goes back on in a tank (26 gallon I think) But it will stay off if I run onroad through it. |

I was going to replace the sensor but when i saw it was a simple two wire setup I unplugged the connection and the light remains on. This would take the sensor out of the picture since it only has continuity when the sensor is immersed in water. Disconnecting the connector to the sensor should defeat it all together. This is why i am so puzzled it still stays on. |

I haven't dug to far in to the wiring but did put a meter across the plug and there was no continuity, which means there isnt a short anywhere unless I am thinking about this wrong. |

Gokeeper if I am reading this correctly 1) no continuity across the pins on the WIF when off the vehicle; 2) when placed in water there is continuity across the pins; 3) WIF connected to the filter but the wiring harness disconnected the dash water in fuel light stays on. If so you have ruled out a bad WIF sensor and need to be on the hunt for 1) a problem in the wiring that is causing the dash WIF light to be powered from another source (I'd look at the routing of the sensor wires and wiggle to see if light goes out or check with a meter) or 2) if the wiring to the dash WIF light involves a "computer" like the ECU or BCM you may have a problem internal to one of those modules. Best I can do, I understand 1970's auto electrics but this newer computerized stuff usually defeats me. |

Yes that is correct however, the light will shut off after 10-20 minutes of driving every time. I will check the wires again, I will also pull the battery cables in a effort to "reset" the light ans see what happens. |

I'm wondering if the ECM is smart enough to know that the WIF sensor is unplugged and throws the code. I'm working, otherwise I'd do this: someone go unplug their WIF sensor and tell us if it throws a code. But I agree it is sounding more like a wiring/internal issue than the plug. |

My WIF sensor has been unplugged for years, as the CAT filter has no WIF sensor. I never get the light unless I go through a car wash just right. |

you didn't say 05 or 06, but the 06's had a problem with wiring damage around the fuel head (they moved things to make room for ESC pump) I'd double check there. |
