Hello all! I am looking at a CRD Liberty for sale locally. It's a sport, 59K miles, nice clean car. I have read up on things like timing belt, and general diesel maintenance and these things seem like they are relatively reliable. One thing that seems to pop up here and there that concerns me is transmission failure. Is this a common concern for CRD owners? Are there any details I should pay special attention to? I plan on taking the car to my local 4x4 shop to have them check it over tomorrow but it is a Rover shop that I have frequently used for my Land Rovers, they may not be 100% up on the CRD Liberty. Thanks in advance for any tips and advice you can offer, I'm going back to searching / lurking now. |

If they're not up to being 100%, then they're like 99% of everywhere else. ![]() Seriously, welcome aboard. And yes, there is an issue with the torque converters and for some (like mine) an issue with the front pump with which a fix exists in the CRD Tech section. I've had the pump issue since the day I bought it and the TC shudder raises its ugly head under repeatable condition. My solution? Don't repeat those conditions. If you do the highly recommended GDE ECM Mod, you should budget an eventual TC change. If you drive the hell out of it, you will need to change it faster. Read the board some, be informed and go enjoy a unique vehicle. However, if you are true type A and expect it to be like a Honda, don't frustrate yourself ![]() Welcome aboard, Boilermaker2 |

The transmission is solid, but the torque converter is the weak point. There was a recall on all CRD's to replace the converter and reflash the system..... search "f37" and you will see plenty of info on it. Most likely your potential buy has had this recall work performed. |

Yes, there should be a sticker placed somewhere under the hood..... I'll check mine in the morning and advise. |

Yes, do a Vehicle ID search at the Chrysler web site to see if your vehicle has gone through the recalls. Find the dealer that worked on her past for maintenance info. Change the oil, treat her good, and she will do the same, valid for the GF too. |
