I noticed in another thread that someone suggested a minimum of a Euro TC to handle the torque that gets enabled by the GDE Full Torque ECO Tune.
I was planning to order this tune, is it really necessary to upgrade the TC first?

I have been running the FT eco tune for about 6000 miles and so far no probs with the TC. My libby has the TC revision that was done with the f37 bulletin, right before the euroTC showed up, now, consider that I don't haul anything but ppl.

have been wondering the same thing. I very rarely tow and when i do its usually two jetskiis on a single trailer, a really light load.

The GDe FT tune is designed for people who tow. Give Keith at GDE a call, he would be more than happy to talk to you about it.

When I asked him, it was very subjective. Will it wear your TC out faster, yes. Will it blow your TC up like the hot tune, no. If you have a lead foot could it seriously shorten the life of your TC, yes.

When the TC fails its a long process. People have driven with the TC shudder for a year, it won't be a catastrophic failure.

I'd say with F37 either FT or Eco and u will be fine..... Or just get the hot tune and blow that F37 out and upgrade ;))

Pretty much what i was hoping to hear. Im usually very light on the pedal, and i really just want to get my torque back to spec and my mileage up while receiving all of the other benefits of GDE's tunes. I'd rather get the tune i wanted originally the first time, rather then spending more twice. Ill take my chances with the FT(when i have the money :-)r ) and hell, if it gives way, just leaves room for upgrading... as long as my pockets arent on fire.

The stock torque converter has a 300 ft*lb capacity lock-up clutch. Our base ECO tune limits torque to 270 during lock-up and the full torque ECO can produce 335. This is over the limit, but most customers never operate at this load for an extended period (unless towing a lot). If you use a higher torque tune and experience "shudder", just go full throttle to get a downshift and out of the critical rpm range for shudder or just let off the pedal a bit to reduce torque to below the shudder threshold. We drove our KJ CRD with shudder for almost a year before upgrading the torque converter.

I have the FT ECO tune and do have shudder occasionally and even when NOT towing. It is difficult to re-create and not so bad. I will live with it for now until it gets un-tolerable then look at upgrading the TC.

Perfect, thanks everyone.

Now I just need to confirm which glow plugs I have (7v or 5v) but I must know how to locate them first!

I say go for it. I plan on getting the GDE hot tune with my stock converter. If it dies it dies. Put over straight 3,000 miles towing a trailer from Ny to Ca twice now doing 75 to 80mph and over some pretty big mountains and never had any shudder. Everything bone stock except for normal stuff tires and brakes. Been super realible for over 70,000 miles. Now I've probably jinxs myself, watch.

Oh and glow plugs for me were the 7v ceramic from factory. Swapped out with the metal ones in spring and never did the ECU update. That's the reason for the GDE tune. Group buy anyone?
