| Post subject: | Who has an old CRD Turbo? |
Hey Guys, I'm looking for a turbo that is no longer needed. It does not need to be functional. I DO need the compressor side to be in good shape though. I have one but it is perfect and only has 40000 on it. I would sell it and I've also been thinking of building it up. I worked on turbos and other diesel stuff for 3 years and am a master certified diesel mechanic so I think I can tackle it |

I'm hoping to find a take off that locked up the variable vein ring or puked the turbine wheel leaving the comp wheel and housing in good shape. Thanks for the response though. Hoosier CRD |

What for? You looking to use just the housing? B/c anyone that has a working turbo... I don't think they will just give it away. If it isn't working, the center cartridge isn't going to be viable either, so all you really get is the outer shell. The compressor vanes are balanced to the specific center shaft they were manufactured with, to match the turbine side which is part of the shaft. You don't want that to be unbalanced at 100,000 RPM. |

Hey Geordi, Actually if the turbo is not functioning, it cannot be rebuilt except through Garrett. There is no core charge on these units and Garrett only sells new currently (Maybe that is a redundant statement) Anyways, I'm looking at doing some experimenting with the compressor wheel design in order to increase the power capability of the turbo. If the comp cover is intact, then it is all the better, but not actually necessary. In terms of balance, the compressor wheel gets balanced by itself. It's the turbine wheel and shaft that are a unit. I am not aware of all rotating parts getting balanced as a unit, but I suppose that it could happen. Though, if the turbine wheel and shaft are balanced then a balanced compressor wheel is added, then all should be equal. FWIW, I work in the diesel industry for a company that does this type of work routinely. Given that there is not a core charge on old units from the CRD Liberty, I thought that if someone had one sitting around gathering dust, I'm glad to take it off of their hands.
