Family is getting bigger and has out grown the CRD :cry: :cry: :cry:

Looking at trading it in but it has a SEGR on it and i know when i disconnect it the check engine light will come on. Sometimes it's instantly or in a few days. I guess questions is should i be straight forward with dealer and let them know about check engine light or not say a word let them look at it and then disconnect( seems a little dishonest :( :( ) and hopefully it won't come on for a bit.

Would love to keep it as it is running great but it is paid for and need the equity for the new vehicle.

I suppose i could try and sell but it's sometimes tough getting the right buyers that know what they are getting into with it. Not that i've had any trouble with it but it will be due for a timing belt change and such shortly.

Just looking for thought or suggestions. Thanks.

A dealer might not be able to legally resell it as is, knowing that the emissions has been tampered with. You also probably have a wad of spliced wires under the hood. Neither will gain points when trading to a dealer.

Yeah they will not be legally able to sell it,not even a no name used car dealership could legally sell it.They would take it in,lowest possible money given for it and then off to the auction it would go as they could not offer any type of warranty of any kind on it.

Best bet is to remove the junk and fix it the correct way and then trade it in or private sell.

Put in the bypass plug and the SEGR is shut off. You may need to make or have a bypass plug made. Turbo Tim and UFO are the experts on SEGR.

When it comes to legality of the EPA and its' regulations in regards to the U.S. Constitution is a subject of debate. But for now, dealers need to jump through the hoops.

You realize that they are going to offer you $5-6K for the Jeep on trade if you are lucky. Or they might bump up the price for the car you are buying and maybe give you a little more. Most likely they will offer even less.

They have no idea what a Liberty CRD is just what a book tells them and no matter what the book says they offer you the minimum amount. I looked up auction house prices and $5-6k is what they are going for on the low end. Most offer $1000 below that to cover costs of the auction house and wholesalers.

Tell us what happens. What state are you in?

Offer it for sale on here. This is one of the only places that understands these vehicles, and you will do a LOT better than at any stealership.

As for the SEGR... If you sold it at a stealer, they wouldn't inspect and find the wiring before making you a BS offer anyway, exactly like GreasyBob says. The average dealer won't even keep a car they take in trade, it is MUCH faster for them to immediately send it off to auction rather than have it sit on their lot (and books) for potentially an extended period.

Problem is... The same vehicles that they have ON their lot, were some other dealer's "send it out to auction b/c we don't want to deal with it" vehicle a short time previously. Anything you tell the dealer where you trade it in... Dies with that dealer, the new buyer from auction won't have a clue of any history.

I tracked one vehicle I traded in years ago in S.Fl, it never sold at the dealer I left it at - Was in the Palm Beach Auto Auction and went to another dealer in the area within about 60 days (I lost track of it initially since the trade dealer didn't list it at all) and when I went to the new (used) dealer that had the car and expressed interest in buying it... His "history" of the car was fascinating to behold... And complete crap.

He had no idea that I was checking out my former vehicle, and already knew the history... Which wasn't anything like what he was spewing at me.

This is the same issue I've been dealing with. My check engine light came on right after my warrenty expired so I installed the SEGR mod and the light went out. 2 years later the check engine light came back on even with the SEGR installed.

I'm thinking about selling it so I decided to fix it myself. I replaced the EGR valve with a new one,$265. It wasn't that hard to get to once I realized where it was. The check engine light was still on so after a bit of troubleshooting I suspected the wiring connectors on the SEGR. I removed all the wiring assosciated with the SEGR and spliced back in the original setup. The engine light went out and has stayed out.

I took the CRD to CarMax in gilbert AZ, and they offered me 11,000 on the spot. I'm still trying to decide what to do.

I was offered $7000 which is why I'm trying to sell mine here.
Atleast here the options put on are appreciated. If I get no bites then eventually part out the skid plates, segr, etc.

Thanks guys for the feedback...still kicking around what I'm going to do...I still need to get it to the dealer for them to look at and give me a trade in value. I've got a good relationship with the dealership(ford), father-in law retiree and have always gotten blue book value for previous cars. Ford is offering the extra grand with trade in so thought maybe that would offset the difference somewhat between trade in and selling out right. Located in Minnesota. Thanks again.

You think that extra grand comes off their profit margin? HAH!

They just mark up everything they have on the lot higher to compensate, or load it in on the back into the interest rate.

Try this on for size before you head in to your next dealership experience, and see how it fits. There is also an update that the author did, linked from the same article.
